Stay in Balance

When our lives are in balance we feel more stable, secure and better able to handle the changes that life brings us. When we feel unbalanced, our levels of stress and anxiety increase. As stress levels increase, the more out of balance we feel. It can become a pretty slippery slide as we try time and again to regain our footing. n
Sometimes at the gym I practice feeling balanced by doing squats while standing on a basu ball. (It’s the top part of a vinyl ball partially filled with sand resting on a firm base) To perform the exercise, you need to stand on the ball, find your balance, and then move while remaining balanced. Performing this exercise successfully requires me to use my “core” muscles, (the muscles deep inside the body from where all movement stems.) Practicing this exercise strengthens my core muscles. Strengthening my core muscles allows me to complete the exercise more successfully. Eventually, I master the exercise because my core is strong and it steadies my balance.

This exercise is very similar to life. We can use life’s experiences to knock us off balance or we can use them to strengthen our core. When we use life’s experiences to strengthen our core, we are better able to move through the next circumstance that comes along. We feel more secure. More stable. More balanced.

This week, be inspired to use the strength of your core to stay in balance and face life’s challenges with both feet grounded.
