Most of us find it difficult to get ahead in life and follow our dreams due to our addictions, irrationality, and obsessions. Everyone wants to be loved, but we settle in unhealthy relationships thinking that this somehow will bring us satisfaction and companionship. Toxic relationships only bring you down mentally and emotionally. You lose sight of who you are and the things that make you happy. You begin to tolerate behaviors that is unacceptable and take whatever time and attention that is offered to you, even when its less than sufficient. We become obsessed with the idea of being with someone not realizing we are not living our reality. We have deceived ourselves to believe that this companionship is something it is not and now we feel lost, confused, and hurt.

Addiction is another form of enslavement that stops us from becoming the greatest version of ourselves. We become enchanted with the thought of being something or someone other than ourselves for that short period of time. Our imagination and creativity appears to be heightened and we feel like we are on top of the world. You know what you’re doing is bad but it feels so good. It’s self –gratification at its finest because it allows you to express your darker side without shame.

Being enslaved by your addictions is just acknowledging that you refuse to face your fears and desires. We love to escape reality and in doing so we form habits that become hard to break. As humans we all have two sides, which side and desire you decide to feed is up to you. In order to break free, you must confront these feelings and your darker side. Accepting the shadow side of yourself can help channel your positive energy, so that you can concentrate on the things that matter to you most. Understand that confronting your dark side can lift the chains that tie you down.

By not letting self-hatred and shame take over we are empowered to be free. You don’t have to hide your darker side because it will always reveal itself. However, we must learn how to acknowledge our feelings and emotions, and not excuse any actions that we feel to be offensive or that takes away from who we are, so embrace all elements of yourself and know everything will come together in perfect harmony.
