Stress is something that we face more and more in today's life. It is caused by a number of different situational factors, but if you find yourself in constant stress on daily basis in your life, it may cause a lot of issues in all areas of your life. Fortunately, these issues can be avoided with three simple and practical techniques.
First and probably most important technique is to realize and to understand deeply that you don't have to be perfect. Most of our stress comes from our constant focus on doing and having everything perfect in our life. Perfectionism can lead to procrastination due to the immense effort needed to ensure perfect conditions and perfect results. However, in some cases, there is a need to be close to perfectionism. Being a surgeon in a middle of an operation or air-traffic controller on a busy airport requires being perfect.
Keep your need to perfectionism to the moments when it's really needed. Learn to focus your attention on the outcome and overall picture instead of perfect details. This method will take off a lot of pressure and keep the stress on a manageable level in your life.
Second technique can be summarized on very simple words "You have to care, but not that much". I don't really remember who said it first but practicing it will definitely keep your stress level under your control.
When you have a job on hand, keep yourself focused on the outcome and, in the same time, realize that is not a life and death situation. You always have some choices and some other alte
atives. Give yourself time and space to make mistakes and wrong choices in life. Where you are now is the result of your past choices but your future depends on what you choose from now on. Some task and challenges need more time and effort than you may consider at the first, some of your aspects of life are influenced by exte
al factors. The less you focus and work to control every single aspect, the less stress you will encounter on your life.
Last but not least important technique is related with your overall view about yourself and your life. Get yourself aligned. I'm not saying that you have to start to meditate every day for hours or take yoga classes. You may choose to hang-out with your friends, read a book, go for a walk or listen to some relaxing music. Do whatever puts you in a relaxed state. Give yourself time to relax on a daily basis. Sometimes 15 minutes is enough to take of the pressure and keep the stress out. Give yourself 15 minutes a day to think to yourself and to keep your mind in peace.
These three techniques, very simple and basic, will help you manage the stress in your life and focus your attention and energy to keep you on your path to total success.
