What makes you a success? Is it the size of your house? The type of car that you drive? Is it the success that your children have? Is it how long you have been married? Is it the amount in your bank account?
There are no right or wrong answers. There are answers that society encourages us to choose. In order to be a success, we need to be super thin, very rich and no older than 25. Okay, that is one definition of success.
For some people the definition may be the amount of time that they can devote to their spirituality. Or to exercising. Or to eating. Or to giving back to their community. None of these answers are right or wrong either.
We each have our own individual definitions that are formed from our families and societies that we live in. But these definitions change as we grow up and older. The definition that fit you as a twenty year old certainly does not fit you now if you are 50 and have kids in college.
What goes into your definition of success is a very personal one. It will not be the same as anyone else’s. My challenge to you today is to take the time out of your busy life and define for yourself what, exactly, success means to you. How will you know if you have achieved it? What, really, makes you happy? Once this is clear, adjust your life so that you can achieve these goals, being aware that you will need to continually re-define them as your life changes.
And enjoy the journey.
