Those of you who’ve heard me speak or know a little about my work know that I’ve created a DANCE system for business women to get you clear and focused on how to create a profitable business that serves you and allows you to live the life you truly desire. A system that helps you get out of your own way and instills in you the confidence to make this happen so that you achieve success on your own terms.

This system is a step by step approach to making success predictable and hugely enjoyable and it’s also a metaphor for how you live your life and how you set up and run your business.

In my system you are the dancer of your life dance, here to showcase your unique dance in your own fabulous show (your life), and the platform you use to showcase your dance – your stage – is your business.

Exploring this metaphor is a fun and creative way to think about a profitable and 'fit' business - about you being fit for business and about your business being fit for you. For example

  • How can you be the real star of your show rather than an understudy?
  • How can you set your own stage the way you really want, rather than the way that’s expected?
  • How can you feel great about your show? About your dance, your music, your stage settings, your support troupe?

And there is so much more to consider in terms of fitness – your energy, passion and mastery of the dance as well as

  • Structures to support your dance
  • Your dance steps
  • Your dance guide
  • Who your dance show is for
  • The size, location and reach of your stage

And you can extend the metaphor further by imagining every client interaction as a dance, starting with

1. Your invitations to your show (your marketing).

  • How you attract and invite your audience (prospects and customers).
  • How you express the meaning and purpose of your show in a way that is attractive to your ideal client.

2.Your conversations with prospective audience members (your sales).

• How you dance with their conce
s.
• How you move in step with them to reach a satisfactory conclusion for both parties, so your ideal clients buy a ticket to be inspired and motivated to action and specific results.

3.Your dance as you begin to work with clients (your delivery and customer service).

  • How you lead your client with tools, techniques and processes and how you invite them to follow.
  • The best students learn, apply what they know and as necessary adapt to fit with their own dance show.

4.How you move from foundation steps to more advanced teaching (your multiple sales/on-going clients).

  • How you support your client to master their current dance and turn up the houselights to show the way to their next step, to more complicated and rewarding moves, or their next stage.

5.How your interpretation of your own dance is ever evolving (your continued personal learning and business growth).

  • How you interpret your challenges and successes and creatively express yourself as you evolve and grow, and how you invite and lead your clients to do the same.

When you focus your energy and effort on these areas you will without doubt be ‘business fit’. AND keeping business simple and creative will also keep you mentally and emotionally fit. Both of these together will help you build a profitable, fit business that serves you as well as it serves your clients and allows you to live the life you truly desire.

After all the hours of therapy and self-help, self-discoveries, self-realizations, and self-improvements I’ve made, I just identified yet another layer of unresolved issues that I need to deal with. Can you relate? When will we finally be done evolving and growing into the person who we want to be and arrive “there”—at the life we always wanted?

Sometimes, life smiles on you. It’s the kind of thing that nourishes hope. And then, life turns. And, well – you deal with it. Upon my return from Germany and settling the affairs of my late father, I retained a lawyer—with more money I did not have—to fight the eviction notice I’d received while I was abroad. I found a bankruptcy attorney and prepared myself to let it all go. Even though I had just negotiated a huge deal with Getty Images, the largest such distributor in the world, I realized that I might not make it to see my business turn a profit.

Wouldn’t it be nice if we could do what we love and money would flow automatically? It actually can do this and it will, but not entirely by itself. An extra step is needed. Money comes around when it is actively pursued and it doesn’t when you neglect to do so. Let’s take a closer look at how making money fits into the day to day planning by the example of the average entrepreneurial business owner. Most of you have figured it out, but there is still a difference between getting something done and generating income. Let’s look at why that is.
