The messy closet – we’ve all fallen victim to it. Each and every weekend, we tell ourselves that we’ll clean it out. This will be the weekend we’ll get organized – but then something comes up. The kids have be taken to their best friend’s birthday party, your infant gets sick, your husband needs you to make dinner because he’s going into the office. Whatever the reason, something always comes up. The reality is that taming your messy closet is positively overwhelming – there are shirts and shoes to organize, dresses to hang and purses to catalog. We get it – everyone gets overwhelmed by the sheer magnitude of stuff they own when they go to clean their closet. The first step in any closet overhaul is to sort through everything you own and make sure that you throw out or donate anything that you haven’t worn within a year. Chances are, if you haven’t worn it in the last year, you’re not going to wear it. Of course, there will always be a few pieces that have sentimental value to you, and these, you can hold on to, but for the most part, it’s time to give away the things you never wear. Once you’ve done this, sort the clothes by cold weather and warm weather. If it’s winter, put away your warm weather clothes, and vice versa. Consider storing these in handy air-tight bags to keep out moths and add extra space in your closet. You can place these packed bags on the top shelves of your closet or even under the bed. Now, it’s time to get organized! Here are some handy helpful organizers. Shelf Dividers Shelf dividers are a great asset to an organized closet. They effortlessly slide into closet shelves creating instant structure where you need it, transforming messy piles of sweaters, shirts, towels and more into organized, straight piles that are as organized as can be. They’re easy to remove, which makes organizing a cinch – simply place them where you want them; when things change, take them out and place them again. These shelf dividers work with both wood and wire shelving, so no matter how your closet is constructed, they’ll work for you. Vacuum Seal Hanging Bags Remember those air-tight bags we talked about above? They also come in hanging form! All those winter jackets you can’t seem to find a place for? Stick them into a vacuum seal bag and voila, you’ve tripled your closet space! These bags protect your garments and add space in even the tiniest of closets. Great for the stuff you’re not wearing right now, all you have to do is hang clothes on original hangers, and vacuum to compress. With a side zipper, you get easy access should you want to access the clothes. Great for suits, sports coats, blazers and winter jackets, each bag holds up to ten garments! Cascading Hanger These hangers are amazing – they allow you to hang six times the amount of skirts, shirts and pants of an original hanger! Hang the cascading hanger on your closet rod and then hang your clothes on the allotted slots and drop one end. Voila! You’ve maximized your closet space in one easy step. These hangers are also great for belts and accessories. By taking advantage of the vertical space in your closet, you save a good deal of horizontal space, meaning that not only are things organized, but there’s lots more room! Shoe Storage Boxes Clear shoe boxes will revolutionize your footwear collection. Keep your shoes dust free and totally visible. No more fumbling around on the floor of your closet in the dark. No more dusting off those leather boots. These clear shoe boxes are practical and allow you to save time in the morning! Forget cardboard boxes, which can be easily trampled, and turn to these plastic ones and you’ll never lose a pair of shoes again! These boxes can also work for storing handbags, scarves and other accessories. Hanging Handbag Organizer Finally, a way to organize your large collection of purses! This hanging handbag organizer neatly organizes and protects eight of your handbags from dust and wear and tear. No more shoving them into shelving or piling them on the floor – give your handbags the attention they deserve! This storage piece hangs at eye level so that you can always find what you need, and saves your precious floor space by elevating handbag storage to the closet rod. No more wedging your purses in a drawer or praying you’ll find the one you want in that giant pile! As you can see, once you start clearing things out, organizing your closet isn’t hard at all. You just need the right helpful organizers to help get you started!
