Teaching Your Kids Good Printing Habits

Technological advances have brought electronics into the home, and gave us no option but to become technologically literate. As parents, we have to teach our kids good habits, and that includes when using the electronics we have in the home. Take printing for instance. Almost everyone has a computer and a printer in their home for the family to use. Teaching kids good printing habits is important if you want them to act responsibly, creatively, and use the printer to the best of their ability. Printing Habits to Teachrn- Making sure the ink cartridges are full enough before you try to print a big project is important. You can check the levels by finding the ink level option in your printer file. It should offer you a diagram that shows the ink cartridges and the level the ink is at. If too low, you may want to change them. If you don’t want your kids to change them, tell them to let you know if they notice that the ink level is too low. - Set the printer to print with less ink by changing the quality to be lower for kids’ projects and simple copies. If you are printing, or allowing your kids to print photos, then you will want to readjust the setting to a higher quality. When you adjust the printing quality settings to fit your project, and teach your kids to do the same, you will use less ink in the long run, and you won’t have to change your ink cartridges as often. - Printing paper is something that the family can use and sometimes reuse. Printing coloring pages is fun, but why limit them to one side of the paper? Teach your kids that if they want another page, they can simply turn their printed page over and print on the back. - Recycling is good, but what many people don’t realize is that ink cartridges can be recycled. There are some office supply places that will either pay a deposit, or take a percentage off your order when you bring in your old ink cartridges to recycle. Teaching your kids to not throw used ink cartridges away, and having a place designated to keep them, will not only save and make you money, but will teach responsibility at the same time. Taking the time to show your kids how to develop good habits with printing is something that not everyone thinks of. Showing by example is the best way to begin.
