As a society, we have become increasingly technologically connected than ever before in the past. Unfortunately, most people have also become much less active.
20 to 30 years ago, most people did not have personal computer, video game systems, smartphones and tablets. Home theater systems and online gaming was also not present.
Technology has come a long way over the past few decades; however with these advancements, it also made many people to rely on such technologies and become careless when it comes to dieting and exercising.
For most people, it is the case that when they are performing sedentary activities like watching television programs or using the computer, most people snack on unhealthy foods all the time. This usually occurs on a regular or even daily basis, and before they know it, they will have gained several inches around their waist.
Just take the following example. If you are playing a game of basketball or badminton with friends, you will most likely not be constantly grabbing onto your potato chips or drinking soft drinks. You will be actively engaged in a physical activity, improving your cardiovascular health and muscle tone. Food is probably the last thing on your mind when you are trying to win at the sport.
However, when people are sitting or even lying on a couch watching television programs or movies, it is very common practice to grab some chips or snacks to munch on. Given how most snacks today are packed with high fructose corn syrup, which has an addictive quality, you will probably start snacking on such foods on a regular or daily basis.
Although technology has indeed made things more entertaining and convenient, it does not translate to us simply sitting down and pigging out every day. Not only will you become fat and look bad but it may also lead to health related diseases. The key is moderation. If you must do such activities and snacking, make sure that your snack is healthy and low in calorie content.
You should find a balance between entertainment and keeping an active lifestyle. Working out regularly is not only healthy for your body, but can help you look better and act as a stress reliever. You should find a sport or exercise you enjoy and perform it regularly; the key is to perform it regularly until it becomes a habit. Also, the next time you are watching television program or using the computer, all you should snack on is an apple with a glass of water.
