How do you feel? Right now. Today. Did you hop out of bed this morning ready to tackle the day? If yes, wonderful! If not, why not? Did you not sleep well, eat too much, drink too much or are you too stressed?
As a boomer you may be one of those people who have done a pretty good job of getting what you want. You¡¦ve worked hard to carve out a great life for you and your family. It¡¦s taken a lot of work but it¡¦s really paying off! You have really gotten things under control, just the way you like it. You are in charge of your life and nothing is going to get in the way and change it. Nothing! You hope.
Well my friend, sometimes we simply get in our own way! All that great planning and hard work can¡¦t be for naught¡K¡K¡K¡Kbecause we do get in our own way. We believe things that are false. They are myths. They are legends, folklore; they simply just aren¡¦t the hard truth. So, let¡¦s review!
Myth # 1: I don¡¦t have time to work out at this point in my life. I¡¦ll get back on track after I retire. Wrong. You can not make up for lost time. Use it or lose it! Besides, statistically only 16% of people over 65 years old exercise for even 30 minutes per day. So, who are you kidding?
Regular exercise is imperative not just for physical health but for your mental health as well. Besides all those endorphins, you just simply look better, and who doesn¡¦t want that?
There are too many benefits to exercise to name all of them, but to just name a few:
- You will live longe
- Your memory will be bette
- You will heal faste
- For you men: you will be less likely to be impotent
- For you women: you will have fewer hot flashes
- You will reduce any muscle or joint pai
- It will reduce your risk of developing heart disease, diabetes, Alzheimer¡¦s and some forms of cance
- It will save you a lot of money. Being sick is expensive!
The best part about regular exercising is that even just strength training can reduce and even reverse our bodies natural age related declines in bone and muscle mass. So, basically, we will look better! Try to do at least 30 minutes of exercise every day. It¡¦s really not that much. Aren¡¦t you worth it?
Myth # 2: Eating healthy is just too much work. Not true. It¡¦s as simple as buying healthy, whole foods at the grocery store. Stay away from the ice creams, cakes, chips and all those things that are terrible for you. Stay away from all those processed foods. They may be simple, but they are terrible for you!
Since in America 57% of your eat out, chose your restaurants carefully.n • Avoid all you can eat buffets
• Avoid burger and pizza joints, or at least chose very wisely
• Chose items that you know are healthy i.e. salads
• Ask for dressing on the side
• Just use your head!
Since you are working out regularly (see Myth # 1) you may sneak something once in awhile, but just be aware that you get to chose what you eat, so chose well. Your life depends on it!
Myth # 3: Everyone gains weight as they age. Not true.
Ok, scary information here. If you are a post menopausal woman, as your fat consumption increases, so does your chances of getting breast cancer. Any excess weight during midlife and beyond:
- Increases risk of heart problems and cholesterol issues
- Increases risk of diabetes
- Belly fat is dangerous to your health
- Obesity in mid-life makes you a higher risk for Alzheimer¡¦s or Dementia
- Excess weight gain increases your chances of premature death
The good news is that you can take control of your weight. You have heard it all before, eat healthy and exercise regularly. It¡¦s your life. Take charge!
This is Part I only. The next two parts will be in the next two ezines, so keep your eyes peeled!nnnnn

Ethical Wills have been around for many generations but seem to be regaining their strength. That may be simply because many of you are getting to the stage in life where you begin thinking about what you are passing along to your children or other loved ones. Another term for Ethical Wills might be a “Values and Vision Statement.” In a nutshell, it is a tool for passing your memories, values and traditions to your loved ones and future generations.
