What amazing women we are!
I've been inspired this week by the creative and courageous women I’ve met who want to develop their business and are prepared to do whatever it takes to do that.
Are you one of them? Really? What are you prepared to do?
Are you willing to let go of your story? The things you tell yourself about why you're where you are, about how things are in your world, about why it's different or difficult for you?
Because that's all it really is - a story. What you tell yourself and others to justify staying exactly where you are in your business and in your life. And if that sounds harsh then I don't apologise. Because honestly, some of you need to hear this!!
What you've got to ask yourself is is this story of mine really serving me, or is it limiting me? Is it allowing me to grow and expand, or is it making me stay small or even contract? Is it keeping me fearful and operating under the mistaken belief that where I am is safe and secure?
Why do I say this is a mistaken belief? Because nothing and no-one is totally safe and secure. The very fact that you’re alive means that you’re always at some kind of risk.
However we manage most risk without really thinking about it. But what about your business? Doesn’t it make sense to take responsibility for your own results? To take control of your own destiny, and not risk leaving it to the whim of others – government, the economy, business and other people? To create your own life and business to give you what you want?
Because that's the only certainty you have in life – the freedom to choose and to take full responsibility for your choices.
So what’s this got to do with business development?
Well, everything, because you can choose to grow and move forward or you can choose to stand still or stagnate. And not choosing or doing nothing is still a choice!! And because you make the choice, and you’re the person responsible for taking your business forward then the best way to build your business is through personal development. It’s how you open yourself up to new perspectives and ideas, how you expand your thinking and grow on a personal level.
Accessing development is about accepting that everything you currently want is outside your comfort zone – otherwise you’d already have it – and to get what you want will take thinking differently and/or doing things differently.
So.....
- What are you prepared to do today that will stretch you?
- What 1 thing could you do that if you did consistently would move your business forward?
- What feels scary and exciting?
- What would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail?
- And what’s stopping you doing these things today? If it’s too scary you can choose to get some help. Stop coming from a place of fear and lack and start taking control of your life and business - get a mentor or a coach.
Because nothing in this life is free and if you want to grow and help your business to grow then you must invest. You must invest time, money, and energy. How much time and money you invest will depend on the speed with which you want results and the amount of each you have available (although that in itself depends on how you look at it!)
So stop waiting for everything to be right before you make a change. Make the decision now to allow yourself to grow, because growing your business is always a result of you growing as a person.
Do you want to be stuck at the same level this year – or do you want to move up with the big girls?
Your choice.......

***Rising Like a Phoenix
Sometimes, life smiles on you. It’s the kind of thing that nourishes hope. And then, life turns. And, well – you deal with it. Upon my return from Germany and settling the affairs of my late father, I retained a lawyer—with more money I did not have—to fight the eviction notice I’d received while I was abroad. I found a bankruptcy attorney and prepared myself to let it all go. Even though I had just negotiated a huge deal with Getty Images, the largest such distributor in the world, I realized that I might not make it to see my business turn a profit.

***Do What You Love AND Make Money
Wouldn’t it be nice if we could do what we love and money would flow automatically? It actually can do this and it will, but not entirely by itself. An extra step is needed. Money comes around when it is actively pursued and it doesn’t when you neglect to do so. Let’s take a closer look at how making money fits into the day to day planning by the example of the average entrepreneurial business owner. Most of you have figured it out, but there is still a difference between getting something done and generating income. Let’s look at why that is.
