The Bigger They Are, The Harder They Fall

We all are familiar with the famous saying: “The Bigger They Are, The Harder They Fall”. And we all at some point assumed this quote referred to individuals in one way or another. But as a dreamer myself, struggling to achieve my goals, I have broadened my view of this quote and began to view it from a much wider scope based on the obstacles I have encountered and continue to learn from. Hopefully yourself having dreams you aspirer to achieve will understand “the bigger they are, the harder they fall” constructed on the dreamers perspective.

Have you notice how big dreams at some point have the tendency to invite an experience that results into a hard knock down and disguises its self as failure? We are not talking about the little stumble over a crack in the sidewalk fall where you trip, catch your balance, laugh it off and then move on. No, I’m talking about a forceful stumble that knocks you to the metaphorical ground and, introduces you to unfamiliar pain you never imagined possible.

It is the type of fall that before you can comprehend what happened, you must regain control of your senses. It is the kind that keeps you momentarily paralyzed, wondering if you have enough strength to stand again. Then with sheer determination, you limp home and with each step a pain from within gets stronger, while you repeatedly ask yourself, what the did I do? Then you finally reach your destination, believing the only thing left to do is, make yourself comfortable but, you can’t. Because now mixed with the pain, you hear your inner voice telling you “get up” but, you just sit there, uncomfortable wondering, what did I do? This is the constructed scope of the dreamer’s perspective; “The bigger they are, the harder you fall”.

Based on my own experience a reasonable explanation for such knock downs or failures could be that; at a particular point of your jou
ey you have reached a level of great importance, were the time has come for you to learn a valuable lesson. Maybe we can call it your profound moment and profound knowledge cannot come from a “oops I tripped” moment because, it is laughable and easy to forget. Profound knock downs or failure introduces unforgettable pain that may leave a scar and you will always make a promise to yourself, to never allow situations of that particular nature to occur again.

We may stay down for a while, not because we are hesitate to get up again but, the harshness of the pain and depth of the scar may generate built up or unwanted emotions of fear and doubt. Sometimes we must have a recuperation period to allow our wounds to heal, while examining the events that lead to the knock down which strengthens our courage. If your dreams are important to you, you will embrace every emotion that emerges, you begin to clearly understand what happened, and enter the point of being ready to move on, yep, “the bigger they are, the harder you fall.”

So dreamer if you find yourself in a knock down phase of your jou
ey, take a good look at it, understand what happened, then use that knock down as a step to keep moving. And if you ever find yourself faced with a similar situation, you will be more prepared to either go around, climb over or if necessary straight through. Most importantly never allow your knock down, to keep you down. You’re on to something big and, “the bigger they are, the harder you fall.”
