The current economic recession is a threat to the well-being of countless Americans. In recent history, the government implemented some short-sighted policies which ultimately led to a US economic downturn. Although the current economic recession did not come immediately, but there were economic indicators that hinted at the eventuality.

Why were so many people taken aback with the current economic recession? Mostly because the information provided to the public was lacking and they had the misconception that good economic times were forever. But now, we realize that the current economic recession should have been foreseen; in fact, it was almost inevitable.

In the last several decades, the US government had gone through a lot of turmoils of the economic cycle yet, had survived in spite of it. People had experienced personal bankruptcy, mortgage problems, and other financial difficulties. Yes, but many had survived to tell their story. Blaming the government or anyone else will do no good at this point.

But the question remains, what remedy is there for the problem?

Will you survive the increasing interest rate and the rising fuel costs? Will you stand on the sidelines when your job is threatened by forces beyond your control? Well, you definitely shouldn't because you can take back control over your life.

Self-employment can be the solution! Right now, starting your own business can be easy because you can penetrate the global market.

Before you start, here are some tips:

Know the right niche - even if hard-work and dedication are critical characteristics in business, it will amount to nothing You need to discover the perfect niche in order to grow your business.

Know your expenses - capitalization is a definite requirement in starting a business but there are expenses you need to deal with after that. Know what these expenses are before you even start.

Have an organized business - don't open a business just for the sake of opening one. It is important for you to record everything that goes in and out of the company. It will enable you to know if you should still continue and you will avoid costly tax accounting preparation.

Have an exit strategy - business owners certainly don't want to think of their business closing down especially if they are just starting with the business. But having an exit strategy is also important because it enables you to determine how you can liquidate with the least possible damage.

If you can observe, the tips above are great but they are theoretical in nature. So, is there any business that has the perfect niche market, have low operating expenses, and minimal exit costs? Well, keep in mind that while current economic recession presents a challenge, it also presents a lot of untapped opportunities for an enterprising individual.
