When embarking on a diet to lose weight, you should still ensure that you still get all the essentials your body needs. This way you can prevent the dangers of nutrient deficiencies. By following the wrong type of diets, you may risk mineral and protein deficiencies, which may further lead to a whole horde of other health problems. The following are some of them.
Firstly, you may experience hair loss. If that occurs to you, you are probably suffering from iron deficiency. Iron deficiency results in low hemoglobin levels and causes damage to hair. It also reduces the blood's oxygen carrying capacity. This little oxygen supply weakens the hair follicles. Furthermore, a low protein diet also causes the body to break down its own lean tissue. As a result of this, hair and skin are the first ones to be affected. Take more dark green leafy vegetables and oatmeal for more sources of iron.
Maintaining a nutritious diet consisting of vitamins like the B group & minerals like zinc is essential for normal hair growth, especially when on a diet.
Next, you may also experience calcium deficiency. Calcium is crucial for the maintenance and development of healthy bones. As we grow older, we naturally lose some bone mass. It is thus necessary to maintain correct dietary habits from the beginning to prevent bone related problems. Good sources of calcium include dairy products like milk, yogurt, cheese and tofu.
A rapid weight loss and nutritionally imbalanced diet can cause contraction of your skin especially if you are over thirty years of age, causing sagging skin. Wrinkles are caused mainly due to dry skin. A low calorie fad diet and subsequent water loss leads to dryness of skin and can cause wrinkle formation. Eating healthily at regular intervals gives the body the salts and carbohydrates it requires to bind the water in the tissues.
You may also notice dark eye circles on yourself if your diet is lacking in proper necessary nutrients. Fad diets are generally poor in iron. This leads to iron deficiency and thus causes dark circles under the eyes. Once again, eating iron rich foods like dark green leafy vegetables or taking iron supplements will help to prevent iron deficiency.
All these nutrients are essential for our daily well being, especially for our skin, hair, eyes and bones. Therefore, it is absolutely important to also take care of the amount of nutritional content in the foods we eat even when on a weight loss diet.
