This article has a harsh edge to it and at times will come across as cynical. The purpose of this article is to share another side (there's always another side to things; see YIN/YANG) of The Law of Attraction and Networking. I chose these two things as it seems that many of the people connected with selfgrowth.com among other similar websites and self-help books are focusing on these two things, one, a spiritual law or concept and the other, an action.

First, let's look at what makes life so darn challenging for most of us. In other words, why do we need to be talking about the Law of Attraction and/or Networking. Our minds (software) and brains (hardware) are capable of taking in and processing a tremendous amount of information, some of which is imprinted to the subconscious and some straight to our conscious mind. The subconscious picks up what our conscious mind doesn't want to focus on at the moment and when repeated, tends to stick and affect the long-term thoughts and thus, actions of the owner of that mind/brain.

If we aren't practicing self-awareness regularly; taking inventory of our thoughts and asking ourselves about our motivation ("why do I want to eat right now?" "why do I feel this way?" or "why do I want to network?"), we can lose touch with or lose control of our thoughts. How many times in your life have friends come up to you (or you to them) and say that they need to have a heart to heart or difficult conversation with you because they felt like you were not acting like the person they knew. Whether in a conversation or an email or simply someone jettisoning themself from your life (or vice-versa), we all have "lost it," and had to find our way back.

Now that we understand a little about losing control of thoughts/actions, I want to share some thoughts about how I see networking and the law of attraction. The impetus for this article came when I was thinking about a number of people who've networked with me (both online, by phone and in-person) as of late. I know that not everyone reading this will fit into the category I am going to launch into here, so kudos to you if you honestly do not, but it needs to be mentioned. When I was going over these meetings, I found there to be a seediness to them. I realized what it was and wanted to take an immediate shower. These people were leeches, really only considering their own benefit and not caring at all about mine. Their feigning interest in what I did lasted all of a minute or two and they just couldn't wait to tell me about themself and their business.nnn I see the same behavior on this site as many simply invite me to be their network buddy but show no real interest in me or my business, just a one-liner to get me to click on their site and hopefully buy things or refer people to them. What category do YOU fall in? Can you tell when someone is energy-sucking or simply advertising instead of networking? Do you REALLY listen when you are networking or are you just waiting your turn to shove your business card in the other person's hand so you can move on to the next "victim?"

And this leads me into the law of attraction. What are you really attracting if you are one of the selfish networkers I described? The law of attraction is about belief and energy flow. Is networking about climbing over people to get to the top? Is it about "hey, buddy, can you give me a boost?" and not returning the favor? I implore all of you to look at what is going on here and all around us and realize how money-driven many of us are and how selfish we become when this is the focus. I see it in endless website, mail and phone scams and I think it is the worst when people pose as someone who is wanting to help others when they are simply looking for their fortune or way to the top.

It would be a great time to launch into a list of how to recognize these people but I challenge you to turn on your radars and figure it out for yourself. And if you are one of these frauds I have described, I seriously hope you have the self-awareness and spiritual fortitude to make changes and learn to care for your fellow person. THIS is what the law of attraction is about and only this will bring true success and happiness to your life. Good luck and happy networking!
