Do you feel you’re so busy being busy you don’t have time to get yourself feeling energetic and full of life? You hope a good night’s sleep will do it, or a session at the gym, or maybe a luxurious bath once in a while?

Now I’m not saying these aren’t good things and that they won’t help in the short-term, but what I am saying is that that’s exactly what they are – short-term fixes.

They will not provide the energy you need to stay living full out. They will not provide the energy your business needs to be vibrant and full of life. What will is creating a structure, habits, and routines that support you. This is important because until you’re fully looked after in terms of your emotional, physical, and spiritual needs you will never have enough to give to others because your energy reserves will be sorely depleted.

And by others I mean your business and the people associated with it, as well as your loved ones!

Just imagine for a moment that you are the dancer of your life dance and that your business is your stage. That as the headline act, the principal dancer (leader of your business) you are showcasing your fabulous dance show to your audience (your prospects and customers.)

Now consider the impact of your energy levels on your dance, your audience, on your support troupe, and your crew.
They cannot help but be affected by how you are on that stage. By your demeanour and your energy level, by how you interpret and express your dance.

  • Might the audience be confused if what they experience is not what they expected (based on your description)?
  • Might they be disappointed? Angry even?

Whilst there are no definitive answers to these questions, what is probable is that the higher your energy levels the greater chance your dance (and the feelings, emotions and transformations it evokes), will match your intention, the more it will match its description and the more your audience will appreciate it!

Energy is an essential ingredient in business and in life success if you want to get the best from both.

So what structures, habits, and routines can you establish to ensure that you’re constantly topping up your energy and reserves?

What can you do to give a quick energy boost when necessary?
My top tips below are simple, powerful, and can be built into your daily or weekly routine:

1.Stop, take a break and be fully present in the here and now. Breathe deeply, journal, sing, dance, or do some form of physical activity.

2.Establish some ‘Me’ time. Switch off your phone, don’t check emails, tell your colleagues (or children) that you’re not available and don’t do anything you think you should do or you think needs doing – do something you want to do instead.

3.Take a walk, or get outside for some fresh air and connect with nature.

4.Have a laugh – a great big belly laugh if possible! Even the simple physical act of raising a smile can give a small energy boost as it gets you feeling better now.

5.Be grateful – think of or write down up to 10 things you’re grateful for now. Open up your senses and really experience your environment. What do you notice? What are you thankful for?

Although I suggest you build these tips into your life and work on a regular basis (you will definitely experience the difference if you do), they are also great as ‘pick me ups’.
Do not underestimate the power of keeping your energy levels high, and the simplicity of the habits and tools that can help you achieve this. Energy is essential to your happiness and success.

After all the hours of therapy and self-help, self-discoveries, self-realizations, and self-improvements I’ve made, I just identified yet another layer of unresolved issues that I need to deal with. Can you relate? When will we finally be done evolving and growing into the person who we want to be and arrive “there”—at the life we always wanted?

Sometimes, life smiles on you. It’s the kind of thing that nourishes hope. And then, life turns. And, well – you deal with it. Upon my return from Germany and settling the affairs of my late father, I retained a lawyer—with more money I did not have—to fight the eviction notice I’d received while I was abroad. I found a bankruptcy attorney and prepared myself to let it all go. Even though I had just negotiated a huge deal with Getty Images, the largest such distributor in the world, I realized that I might not make it to see my business turn a profit.

Wouldn’t it be nice if we could do what we love and money would flow automatically? It actually can do this and it will, but not entirely by itself. An extra step is needed. Money comes around when it is actively pursued and it doesn’t when you neglect to do so. Let’s take a closer look at how making money fits into the day to day planning by the example of the average entrepreneurial business owner. Most of you have figured it out, but there is still a difference between getting something done and generating income. Let’s look at why that is.
