Now I can't speak for you, but I don't mind the hard work I have to put in to get the pay off further down the line, postponing immediate gratification for a pay off in the none too distant future has never been a problem for me, I have always been a “big picture” thinker.
Some people don't want to put in the work now for the pay off further down the line, they want their pay off right now, they are suckers for immediate gratification. Now don't get me wrong, if I haven't eaten for several days, and you are brave enough to put a 32 0unce steak in front of me with all the trimmings, then you my friend will see immediate gratification taken to a whole new level.
Seriously though, the majority of things in this life that will be of any real value to you, will take time for you to acquire. We've all see
TV shows like The Biggest Loser, and stuff like that. You see someone morbidly obese and overweight, literally work their ass off to transform their body and their life. Sometimes the results are truly astounding to see, you can see the sheer pride radiating from them, they have a real sense of personal power, a real feeling of achievement that flows from every pore in their body.
They have struggled, they have been ridiculed, they have overcome eating addictions, they have taken themselves well and truly outside of their previous comfort zones, they changed their thought patterns, they changed their behaviour patterns, they each made a split second decision that would have a lasting and dramatic affect on the rest of their lives for years to come.
Ask them if their new life and body was worth the hard work that it took to get it, ask them if they would rather go back to the way things were, ask them if they ever felt like quitting, I'm sure that at some stage it crossed their mind, however they kept their mind focused on the end result, they kept focussed on their final destination and they continued to do whatever it took to get themselves there.
I know that some of you think that they should never have let themselves get in such a bad physical condition in the first place, and to some extent I would have to agree. However I don't know anyone who has never made a mistake, who has never ventured down the wrong path, and found themselves regretting it, It's part of the vibrant fabric of life. You make mistakes and you learn from them, that's part and parcel of life.
If you have hopes, and dreams, and lofty goals that you want to achieve before your time is up, be sure to set the biggest, most outrageous goals that you possibly can, because when all is said and done, the good stuff is always worth the work it takes.
