This history of the piano can be traced way back to the year 1700’s. It originated in Florence, Italy which is situated in Tuscany. Florence is also referred to as the land and birthplace of Italian Renaissance. The musical instrument “pianoforte” was initially introduced as the proud invention of Bartolomeo Cristofori in 1709. He was an Italian man who was then known as a maker of harpsichord.
Bartolomeo Cristofori’s basis for the design of his new invention was the wooden framework of a harpsichord. Furthermore, he also implemented an innovative and unique mechanism through the pianoforte’s keyboard which closely resembles that of the clavichord. From the time of its inception, this musical instrument which we referred to nowadays as the piano had already passed through many innovations over the past 300 years or so.
A lot of innovators had modified its design and shape as well as its functionality, physical appearance, mechanism and sound. The history of the piano can be traced way back from its humble beginnings in the year 1700’s all the way to the present time wherein technological advancements had given way to its new look, design, feel and musical impact.
The history of the piano has another aspect which is based upon a theory wherein the earliest musicians were actually identified as hunters. They experimented and explored with various hunting tools like the bow and arrow, as well as the blowgun. They made use of these ordinary tools to come up with the earliest sounds or music. Later on, the hunters realized that various notes or tones can be produced by simply blowing on pipes with different lengths and thickness.
The history of the piano was also shaped and established through the harp which is known as the first stringed musical instrument ever known. The harp is referred to as the oldest musical instrument because of its antiquity with relevance to history. In fact, it has been mentioned many times in the Bible. The fundamental string design of the harp later on influenced the rise of different stringed musical instruments such as the harpsichord, clavichord and the eventually, the piano.
To date, the piano is one of the well-loved and more popular musical instruments. It creates a classic and timeless sound that is both pleasing and wonderful. This is one of the reasons why a lot of people dream about becoming excellent piano players and piano lessons never lose their appeal. Although it actually took over 2000 years before the pianoforte became to what it is today, the earliest history of the piano remains to be very relevant primarily for its general idea and mechanism. The innovators of the piano over the years had all made relevant contributions in its development and in the improvement of its sound.
