As you get older, you start to notice little things, like joints that are starting to stay sore, or a feeling of inflammation that doesn’t seem to go away. Years and years of hard exercise, lack of sleep, poor nutrition, and other negative lifestyle choices could result in chronic inflammation. You might not even be aware of what chronic inflammation is, but once you understand it, you’ll realize the importance of fish oil.
All sorts of things cause inflammation, such as poor lifestyle choices, pollution, and auto-immune diseases. When you are inflamed, that’s actually your body’s response to a foreign invader. The problem is that sometimes you get inflamed because your body mistakenly attacks a part of your own body, like your joints in the case of arthritis. Chronic inflammation is a major problem, and has been considered to be a major cause of many chronic diseases like diabetes, heart disease, stroke, cancer, etc.
So, what is the importance of fish oil in all of this? Basically, there are certain fats that your body needs. Most of us have what is called “polyunsaturated” or “saturated” fats, and these are vegetable fats and animal fats, respectively. They both fall under a group of essential fatty acids called “Omega-6”. What you probably don’t get nearly enough of is the Omega-3 essential fatty acids, which are naturally found in fish oil. The main types of Omega-3 essential fatty acids are EPA and DHA.
Inflammation hits all aspects of your body. You’re more likely to have heart disease when your blood vessels are inflamed. This oil also helps with your cholesterol, and it thins your blood, which makes it less likely for you to have a stroke or heart attack. It helps combat hypertension and lower blood pressure, too.
The list of benefits is a mile long, and it covers a majority of your bodily systems. It even improves your brain function, because 60 percent of your brain is actually made of the DHA Omega-3 essential fatty acid. Because of this, fish oil actually improves the symptoms of depression, by allowing the brain to produce more serotonin. Fish oil helps with allergies, asthma, pregnancy, cardiovascular health, brain health, and much more.
Now that you are familiar with the importance of fish oil in many different areas, it’s important that you also recognize where to get this oil. Obviously you can get fish oil from fish like salmon, tuna, and mackerel. You can also get your yhis oil in a bottle of straight oil or a bottle of oil-filled capsules. The distinction you need to make is that some fish oil is dangerous, because a large percentage of fish have been contaminated by pollutants and toxins like mercury and heavy metals.
However, as long as you are willing to look for quality, pharmaceutical-grade oil that has been stripped of all those nasty contaminants and toxins, you will soon recognize the importance of fish oil as its many benefits start to show up in you.
