The Importance of Space, Trust & Fun

‘TRUST and HAVE FUN’ has long been a motto of mine yet it's sometimes necessary to remind myself of this! To remind myself that if I’m not feeling good or having fun and trusting in myself to do the right things, I’m sabotaging myself – worrying about all the things that aren’t getting done instead of focusing on the doing!

I also know from working with my clients that when you start to trust yourself and you do what feels right, magic can happen – things get done effortlessly, people who can help appear almost miraculously, you feel on top of the world and everything ‘flows.’ However, when you’re not in the right space (intellectually and emotionally) everything is more difficult – it takes longer or doesn’t happen at all, and you feel worse.

So what can you do to get into the right space and stay there? Well lots of things actually.....

  • Recognise your inner critic and change your thoughts to expand your internal support mechanisms
  • Maintain regular contact with people who recognise the importance of fun and feeling good and the benefits it brings

• Mastermind with a group of like-minded individuals – your own exte
al support team

  • Make physical changes as appropriate to the situation e.g. if you’re working at your desk or in the office - stand up, walk around, take a break, or run up & down stairs.

Alte
atively - smile, breathe deeply, humming a favourite tune or remember a recent positive experience. Dance is my favourite physical activity but I appreciate that I do have a home office, so this is easy when I’m working at home!

  • Do something fun

The biggest killers of creativity and effectiveness are worry, not stopping or taking a break, and fatigue.

So when you can turn this on its head – actually work fewer hours, create the space to do what makes you feel good and have fun, and trust that you’ll get the important things done – that’s when you are at your most creative and effective – as a business leader and as a human being. So I have some questions for you to consider

  • What can you do to get into the right space more often?
  • How can you build fun into your working life?
  • How can you develop trust in yourself and your work? And,
  • What help do you need with this?

Trust that you know what you need to do and get into the right space to do it because everything is so much easier when you learn to let go............

After all the hours of therapy and self-help, self-discoveries, self-realizations, and self-improvements I’ve made, I just identified yet another layer of unresolved issues that I need to deal with. Can you relate? When will we finally be done evolving and growing into the person who we want to be and arrive “there”—at the life we always wanted?

Sometimes, life smiles on you. It’s the kind of thing that nourishes hope. And then, life turns. And, well – you deal with it. Upon my return from Germany and settling the affairs of my late father, I retained a lawyer—with more money I did not have—to fight the eviction notice I’d received while I was abroad. I found a bankruptcy attorney and prepared myself to let it all go. Even though I had just negotiated a huge deal with Getty Images, the largest such distributor in the world, I realized that I might not make it to see my business turn a profit.

Wouldn’t it be nice if we could do what we love and money would flow automatically? It actually can do this and it will, but not entirely by itself. An extra step is needed. Money comes around when it is actively pursued and it doesn’t when you neglect to do so. Let’s take a closer look at how making money fits into the day to day planning by the example of the average entrepreneurial business owner. Most of you have figured it out, but there is still a difference between getting something done and generating income. Let’s look at why that is.
