“You ARE what you think!”
Simply put, the law of attraction is based on the philosophy that if you truly believe in that which you desire, and endeavor to focus all your mental energy on attaining it, you will begin to attract to yourself all that you need to attain the object of your desire in the physical realm.
As you’ve most likely realized already, the law of attraction harnesses the power of our subconscious minds and aims to help us “reprogram” all deep rooted beliefs that serve as obstacles in our path to attaining that which we desire. The extent to which the practice of the law of attraction will work for you depends on your ability to successfully carry out the following mental exercises which are the foundation on which this powerful self improvement philosophy is built:
Positive affirmationsr
Prayer and/or spiritual healing of the selfr
Creative and/or mindful meditationr
Personal magnetismr
Creative visualizationr
Positive thinking practices, often referred to as optimism
How To Apply The Law of Attraction To Your Weight Loss Efforts
According to the latest (2009) findings of the Gallup Healthways Well-Being Index more than 63% of adults in the United States are considered to be overweight. If you are one of these overweight adults and you truly want to change your current physical condition by losing a certain amount of body fat and working on improving your physical endurance through exercise you must first start your weight loss journey by asking yourself the following question: “Why do I want to lose weight?”
How you answer this question will determine whether or not you succeed in your efforts. So, be honest with yourself. Write down all of your reasons for wanting to lose weight in a journal and analyze each one carefully to determine the underlying factors for that weight loss reason. Erase from your journal (and consequently your psyche) any and all reasons that do not work to help improve your spiritual, mental and physical well being. For example, the reason, “I want to lose weight so that my cousin will stop calling me fat” is one that should be erased from your journal. That is because this reason does not focus on improving your overall well being. Instead, it focuses on changing your cousin’s attitude which is a waste of an effort since we can’t change others’ attitudes. We can only change how we deal with others’ attitudes towards us. However, the reason, “I want to lose weight so that I can better enjoy playing with my kids in the park” is a reason that should remain in your journal. Even though this reason focuses on your children, playing with them is going to be beneficial to your overall well being.
Next, you must begin to analyze your deep rooted beliefs about exercise, proper nutrition and healthy living. For example, I know a man who previously did not exercise, not because he did not enjoy being active but because not exercising had subconsciously become his way of rebelling against all the pressure that was placed on him as a child to do well in sports. I also know a woman who previously refused to eat right in order to lose weight, not because she enjoyed being overweight, a borderline diabetic and having joint problems but because staying overweight had subconsciously become her way of asserting herself and feeling like she was standing up to all the people who had bullied her as a child for being overweight.
And finally, ask yourselves the following questions. These questions will help you determine just how you feel “inside of you” about losing weight.
What is the hardest part of losing weight for me? Is it the exercise? Is it nutrition?
What do the words “in shape” mean to me?
When thinking of dieting, yet again, how can I combat the memories of my past failures?
What type of exercise do I enjoy?
Do I really believe I can lose weight using the law of attraction?
The fact of the matter is that you did not become overweight ove
ight. The patterns of thinking, feeling and living that have brought you to this point developed within you gradually. Your current obesity status is nothing more than a symptom of the negative patterns that exist within your universe. The good news, however, is that using the law of attraction you can begin to break down these negative patterns and replace them with positive patterns of thinking, feeling and living. How? Simply by helping you understand your subconscious notions regarding weight loss the law of attraction will begin to condition your mind to automatically make the right decisions in your every day life that can eventually lead to a slimmer and trimmer you.
But, please remember that you will have to do more than just chant positive affirmations and visualize yourself at your ideal weight to lose weight. You will also have to perform such concrete actions as eating more fresh fruits and vegetables, eliminating from your diet such unwholesome, high fat foods as fast food and alcohol, exercising for at least 30-45 minutes a day and getting adequate rest. However, by utilizing the principles of the law of attraction, you will find it easier to do all of these positive acts that are guaranteed to lead you to healthy, long-term weight loss.
