"Every one of us has been given a great gift: the cup of life. It is half full and half empty. We choose which half to focus on, at every moment." - Marc Allen Several recent experiences have increased my awareness of the magic of seeing the glass as half full rather than half empty. These experiences have helped me realize even more clearly that it is our attention to the perceived fullness or emptiness that determines how much of our life is a joy and how much is a struggle. It has become clear to me that our tendency to focus on the fullness (allowing our natural state of Well-Being) or the emptiness (resisting the Well-Being) determines the quality of the lives we lead. Two examples: A client was extremely concerned about her teenage daughter riding on the back of her new boyfriend's motorcycle. The daughter was focused on the fun and the freedom and the adventure. She loved the feeling of wrapping her arms around the cute guy and taking off with him. She loved the thrill of hearing the engine roar. She loved the excitement of leaning into the turns. Meanwhile, mom was home worrying about risks and dangers and conjuring up images of accidents, ambulances and all manner of unwanted scenarios. With a little reminder that the Law of Attraction brings us whatever we focus on (whether we want it or not), my client was able to breathe a sigh of relief and consciously focus on her daughter having fun and getting home safely. Guess what happened next? The relationship with the motorcycle guy ended and her daughter started seeing a young man who picks her up in his dad's boring sedan. Hmmm. The second example is about my zip-lining adventure in Costa Rica last month. To get a full understanding of just how daring this was for me, I will tell you that, before I knew about the Law of Attraction, I was a major scaredy cat who preferred to wait and watch while others had fun. Why? Because I was seeing the glass as half empty. I was seeing the danger and feeling the fear (like my client above) while others were seeing the excitement and feeling the fun (like her daughter). I was actually quite surprised at how strongly I desired to do the zip-lining thing once I heard about it. It was a definite statement to the Universe that I'm in the game now, no longer sitting on the sidelines watching others have adventures. With my new glass-half-full attitude, the fear was gone and the excitement took center stage. The next thing I knew I was suspended hundreds of feet above the ground flying like a bird through a tropical rain forest. Wow! What a rush! The magic of seeing the glass as half full rather than half empty is about focusing on our dreams rather than our nightmares. It's about focusing on our strengths rather than our weaknesses. It's about focusing on what we want rather than what we don't want -- which, of course, is Law of Attraction 101. It is indeed true that what we think about expands. As we quit complaining about what isn't working in our lives and appreciate what IS working, we create more that IS working and thus more to appreciate. We create more fun and more joy. As we remember that everything is our choice, we reclaim our power and life becomes a joyous, magical dance with other joyous, magical dancers. Who knows what grand adventures await us as we savor the magic of seeing the glass as half full!
