The Next 10 Years...

It was only a few weeks ago when I opened the envelope and discovered my new drivers licence sent by VicRoads, As I was walking to my front door I was admiring the new style licence with new intricate designs to prevent identity fraud. I looked at my drivers licence photo and started to visualise on how I would look like on my next licence. In the state of Victoria you can have a licence valid for up to 10 years.
I sat on the couch and checked my old licence to see how much I have changed in appearance. I paused briefly and thought about the last 10 years of my life, I had a “flash back” moment. I tried hard to think what was I like 10 years ago? It seems that it was only yesterday, a 21 year old personal trainer, full of enthusiasm and ambition cruising the south-easte
suburbs of Melbou
e in a Ford Festiva. Personally, this got me started and gave me a lift. It was like I was given a new chapter in my life, ready for me to write as I see fit.
My question to you is what does the year 2020 look like to you? Brian Tracy in his book “Goals! How To Get Everything You Want-Faster Than You Ever Thought Possible” Brian talks about having a 5 Year Vision. Writing it in detail how you want your 5 years to look like, I say stretch it out to 10 years. One of the main reasons is 5 years is a bit short it will be here before you know it.
I realised that if I don’t act now, in 10 years time I will be in the same situation and 10 years older. If you do not have a plan for your life you will live your life on someone else’s plans, I suggest that you get a clean sheet of paper. Title it “It is 10 years from now …” I suggest that you write your goals and vision on how your life will look like in 10 years. Write about your Relationships who do you want in your life, which do want to cut off. How is your relationship with your children? Are you with the person of your dreams? Your Finances, how much do you have in your savings account? Do you have financial abundance or are you still trying to make ends meet? Are you paying interest, or are you getting paid interest? Career/Business are you in the top 5% of your industry? Are you in your dream job? Are you following your passion or your pension? Did you finally launch that business venture you have been thinking about? Did you complete your MBA? Last I want you write goals for your Health & Wellbeing, do you weigh your ideal weight? Have you completed that marathon you have thought of running in? How are your energy levels? How are you managing your stress levels? Are you grateful from above?
Just remember this list is not a wish list, it’s a “To Do List” if you do not act on your vision and goals you will be in the same place 10 years from now, and if you do not achieve what you have set out to do because of procrastination. It will lead to further frustration, increased uncertainty about the future and a decrease in your own self-belief and its your responsibility. So start now before you know it a decade has past. The best thing about life is you have a licence to live the way you want and its only you who put restrictions, boundaries and demerit points that can revoke your own licence. So I urge you to renew your licence and get on with the life that you really want to live, and smile so when you look back you can say hey I didn’t look too bad 10 years ago.

Oh, What a Year It Was!
Oh, What a Year It Was! I recently shared with our Best Life Design Community, an exercise by Dan Pearce of Single Dad Laughing (http://bit.ly/fGL6t0) shaking up the New Year’s resolutions process. Instead of listing everything he wanted to happen in the New Year, Dan created a future memory at the beginning of the year about how the year progressed. We encouraged our Community to write their own 2011 in review, so it’s only right that I get the ball rolling and share mine. Here it goes…

Excerpt From Street Hockey Millionaire
“You know what they say,” Pete said. “You’ve got to play the full 60 minutes if you want to win.” Steve began, “Let’s get started. Did everyone write some game plans for their highest priority goals?” Pete replied, “ We haven’t had time yet, Steve, but we’re going to do it this week.” Steve ...

Too busy to look after your finances?
So here he was, stuck in the office instead of watching his son play hockey. Meanwhile, Steve was out playing street hockey for three hours a day with his kids. What weighed more on Pete’s brain was that street hockey used to be the love of his life now, it was just a nuisance. Although he’d ...

Numbing Away Our Humanity?
I came across a video this week that features a new technology that captures people’s attention in a novel way. It’s worth watching simply to take a look and ask how you might use it in your business. But its value far surpasses this. In this video, Sir Ken Robinson, makes a powerful call for a paradigm shift in education. This struck me at a deep level, given my raising of 3 kids (including one we home schooled for a couple of years to provide him more of what he needed at the time) and my work on behalf of lower opportunity kids in the non-profit sector.
