The Power of Decision or Indecision

A decision always requires a commitment—and a decision is made whether a person makes a decision or not. The decision could be about getting fit, it could be about starting that new business that you just know will take off, or it could be about starting that business that you're passionate about.
But if you don't decide to do it, you might think (as most people do), "Well, I haven't made the decision yet." Oh, no—you've made a decision, all right, and that decision is to get what you don't want. It's to not have what you can have.
You cannot not make a decision. Are you going to be firm, are you going to have the discipline, are you going to do it?
There's a quote that I use to end a chapter on Page 164 of The NEW Think and Grow Rich, and it talks about how decision moves the HoloCosm.
W.H. Murray, the first guy to have ever climbed to the top of Mt. Everest and returned alive that we know of—by the way, most people don't know that it took three trials at that—talks about all the other good things that jump in to support you when you move decisively forward.
Remember, we're in HoloCosm. We're in quantum soup. He says,
Until one is committed, there is hesitancy…the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness.
Conce
ing all acts of initiative there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans:
The moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves, too.
All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred.
A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one's favor all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no person could have dreamed would have come their way.
And then he concludes with these inspiring words,
I have learned a deep respect for one of Goethe's couplets:
Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it.
Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it.
When I read that to my friend, entrepreneur Wendy Robbins, she said, "I love that quote—I think it's fantastic. And what we discover, really, is that lack of decision is procrastination, of course. You know you can procrastinate another day is the way I figure it, but it basically leads to failure."
Wendy is exactly right. That is the decision that you're making. Failure. When you’re not animated with the vision and decision to go for what you want, you're making a decision to remain in the mediocrity you've professed you don't want.
