The Power Of Positive Thinking

As one who suffered for so long with Chronic Depression, I really have difficulties tapping into the power of positive thinking. I honestly believe that our thoughts are given to us by others, starting while we are still in the womb. First our parents, then teachers, siblings, friends, colleagues and CNN give us food for thought each day. We chew on it, digest it, process it, mull it over and determine what we think about their thoughts! Then, we turn around and pay it forward – what’s inside comes out. Now, we’re feeding someone else those thoughts. (That can be really nasty can’t it?)

With that in mind, our thoughts are really not our own. They are derived from a vast network of thoughts swirling around us. This network of thoughts is the world Jesus called His children up and out of! Why? If your parents told you that you are a loser, you probably think you are a loser. If your teacher told you that you were stupid, you probably think that you are stupid. If someone told you that you were ugly, you probably think that you are ugly. What we are told (other people’s thoughts) can stick with us for the rest of our lives if we let it.

We have got to get rid of those negative thoughts, and replace them with something positive before we can tap into the power of positive thinking. How do we do that? What you read and hear will be your next thoughts, so change what you are reading and listening to. Change what you feed into your mind.

Rom 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Not so sure about that? Well, we have a mental glitch. We don’t trust God enough to accept His thoughts into our mind. We don’t trust Him because we don’t know Him. We only know what other people think about him.

This is the first step in tapping into the true power of positive thinking. Get to know God for yourself, not what other people THINK about Him. Talk to Him and read His word. Ask Him for the truth about Him as you read. You will get new revelation about God, and you will get new thoughts.

Now that you know a little more about your maker, trust Him to feed your mind. Ask Him to give you the truth about you. Talk to Him and read His word, again, asking for truth as you read. You will get new revelation about yourself and you will get new thoughts.

Did you know, that the word “repent” that was probably tossed out at you early in life actually means “to think differently?” It’s not a call to stop sin, sin, sinning! It’s a call to think differently! So, who invented the power of positive thinking? Your maker.

Hey, I’m not a loser. Hey, I’m not stupid. Hey, I’m not ugly. I am a child of the Most High God; how can I possibly fail.

It seems rather odd to refer to any of what follows as secrets. For one thing, the word “secret” implies that something is hidden and the wisdom below is anything but secret. In some form or fashion, you could find these in virtually any spiritual tradition. Second, “secret” implies that the spiritual wisdom that would lead one to the life he/she really wants is really only accessible by a few. And, the unfortunate tendency is not to regard your self as one of the select few. But, of course, you are.
