Since you are reading this article right now, you are probably desperate to quickly shed off those excess pounds off your body. You must have heard about many ways to diet, including counting your daily calorie intake levels. Many people on health forums claim that calorie counting is very important to help you lose weight, but is that really the truth? In this article, I will be sharing with you the various advantages and disadvantages of calorie counting.
First of all, an advantage of counting your calories will make you more responsible. People gain weight as they take in more calories through the form of foods than they are burning off through exercises. Therefore, it is argued that by counting your calorie intake, you will be more aware of the amount of food you take in, making you more conscious and more likely to lose weight successfully and keep it off.
Another advantage of calorie counting is that it teaches you about the types of foods you are eating, and whether it is beneficial or detrimental for your fat loss goals. You will soon learn that if losing weight is your objective, then foods which are low in calorie content levels, while still having great nutritious value are good foods which you should take more often. On the other hand, bad foods are those with high calorie content and may increase your cholesterol levels or add fat to your diet.
Next, I will discuss about the various disadvantages of counting your calories. Firstly, it can make you obsessed. Most people who are trying to lose weight already have a love-hate affair with food. Counting calories for each and every single meal may make you obsessed with it, and having such an obsession is not ideal for your mental health.
As a result of your obsession with counting the calorie content of every food and meal you eat, it can actually prevent you from fully enjoying your food. Food will then become nothing but a number to you, and the problem comes when dieters become sick and tired of counting calories and start to treat food as an enemy instead.
Calorie counting, like many other fat loss methods, is simply a means to help you achieve your goal, that is to take a healthier diet and get a slimmer body. However, it is definitely not the only way to achieve your goal.
