For each one of us there’s a choice—a choice to busy ourselves with the routines and trivialities of the day, or to meet the challenge and adventure of living head on—boldly, effectively, creatively.nnThe Landmark Forum offers each of us an opportunity to make that choice real in the day-to-day possibilities and demands of our lives. Breakthroughs happen in direct proportion to the size of the risks we take. By risk we mean something that wasn't going to happen anyhow, something where there is the likelihood we may not succeed. Risk comes when there are no ready answers, no evidence or proof, no figuring it out, no clear-cut "what to do" or "how to do it." Many times we try to organize our lives and circumstances to reduce the risk, to know the outcome in advance, to be confident and in control, to avoid feeling uncomfortable, looking bad, or even failing. Take a look at how confining it is when we do that, when we reduce our options, modify our expectations, and narrow our own sense of what is possible -- when we reduce our lives to what’s safe and within our reach. We then live in that limited range. We end up with lives which are safer and more predictable, but which rob us of our freedom and our ability to live fully, to create. Every day we are presented with opportunities to live as if it is 'business as usual' or to create something beyond who we have been and what we know. To be left with a choice means to be left fully at risk. To be alive is to be at risk, to be powerful and free, to be ourselves in the face of what would hold us back. The Landmark Forum is about empowering ourselves in the face of the risks in life. It alters the very nature of what is possible. It is a place where what we are up to in life shifts, where a whole new world of possibilities, opportunities, and outcomes is revealed. Life begins to be about relating to possibilities bigger than ourselves and about knowing we can make those possibilities happen. We are able to act outside of existing views and limits. Recently many areas of our state (and others as well) began the process of updating the FEMA Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs). These maps show the areas of potential flooding based on the 1-percent chance storm event. This has been known in the past as the 100 year flood and is also known as the Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA).
