The 'Secret' is for Those Who 'Want'

What are you missing in your life? Do you feel a gaping, gnawing emptiness? The Secret promises to fill this void, but it's the wrong way to go about it. My husband is the happiest person I know. He hums in the shower, he is never angry or anxious, or worried about anything. He is never grumpy. I, on the other hand, am a bit more volatile with my emotions. This is why we are a good match: he teaches me going with the flow and the simple approach to life, and I teach him about passion and playing all out. "Why are you always happy?" I asked him. He said, "why would I not be happy? I have everything I need and want. My big decisions are about which toy I'll buy next! The "Secret" [meaning the Secret DVD and its ideas of practical manifestation] are for those who 'want', for those who lack something in their life." The Simplicity Coach strikes again. The Secret DVD does emphasise how to get what you don't currently have. It is weighted heavily on how to manifest 'stuff', and to its detriment misses the feeling of prosperity, gratitude, and fulfilment my husband knows to be the 'real' secret. Feeling good, and feeling in the flow, and feeling connected - this is what we all truly desire at the core. The ironic thing is that these things are all there for the choosing. You do not need to attract or manifest anything in order to feel these things now. You simply need to choose and to allow these feelings in to your life. You've all heard of travellers who have visited some 'poor' country and were struck by the seemingly disparate states of poverty (in the material sense) and the overwhelming happiness of the people who lived these simple lives. They wanted nothing - they had it all - happiness, pure and simple. They loved themselves and their life. They did not need to attract a car park, a mansion, a car, or anything else in order to feel fulfilled. They could if they so desired, but were happy, in that moment. How golden is that?! They 'want' for nothing. This must be hard-to-get lesson for folks because we hear it again and again and again. Choose to be happy. That's it. Why complicate life with strange equations of, "when..the " or "if...the ". These only delay the feel good stuff that is there right now, today if you choose it. So I add my voice to the long list of 'gurus' who say the same thing: happiness, life, love are what you make them - today, now. Maybe if we keep saying it over enough and loud enough, people will stop resisting the easy path and start to feel good. How about you?
