The Secret Role of Intuition for the Entrepreneur
Written by Allan J. Katz
The lure of the next “get rich quick” scheme seizes me – the hype and the false flattery of strange bedfellows beckons. It seems the poor lead the poorer – the rich lead the poor and the super rich lead the rich. Each with their grand schemes of wealth creation based on the brittle foundation of depending on others’ sales efforts to do the work for us, as we sit on the beach of life – on the sidelines of mediocrity - ingesting the mint juleps of a fantasy life of quick riches, constant happiness and bliss.
When our coffers are full of gold we will suddenly be fulfilled; when we become the imaginary idols of others’ envy – convincing ourselves we are happy because we have quickly made our fortunes on the backs of others or at least tried in vain and failed – convincing ourselves that if we had just tried harder or thought more positive “secret” thoughts our world would suddenly burst forth with bags laden with silver and gold, honor and prestige until we reach the ultimate “guru” status – that godlike state of self appointed bliss where one convinces the masses he has the secret to their serenity through our own success and failures – stating only the successes of course, however minute.
We can perfect our systems – we can create success for ourselves and others – at least on paper but we cannot force others to implement our formula of success. We can only recommend they copy what we’ve done successfully – even though we know few take the time or effort. It is much easier to pay and hope for miracles than to accept and let the abundance evolve through testing the tried and true. Our egos get in the way of idea acceptance, but more so we yearn to be inspired enough to make our own decisions – even to fail – being able to say, “I did it my way;” negating the money, time, effort, tears and regrets those who have come before have endured in their journey to riches. They figured it out – and now try in vain to relay their knowledge upon deaf ears of the unappreciative ego.
What is experience if not to teach others?
What is expertise if not to better someone else’s condition?
Where does this leave intuition – following our own hearts?
Business intuition has its place just as history has its place. We learn from the past lessons of history that history repeats itself. There is nothing new under the sun. Our role is to keep this in mind when we invent grandiose schemes to politically, economically and socially attempt to change the world. When we expect nations with histories of thousands of years to suddenly give up their struggle for peace surrounded by hoards of murderous enemies.
In business, leadership is learning from past experiences from those who have blazed a trail of success through trial and error. Leaders use these experiences as springboards to apply their intuition to their unique situations, markets and uniqueness. It is the ultimate formula for success. Learn from the past and use the knowledge to intuitively create and invent your own future.
