The prophet Zechariah (14th chapter) paints a picture of Jerusalem surrounded by hostile forces that destroy the city, rifle the houses and ravish the women in “the day of the Lord,” the end-time apocalyptic period.

Dr. Richard Ruhling believes “the day of the Lord” is impending because of the solar eclipse and blood moon last Passover. “The sun shall be darkened and the moon turned to blood before the day of the Lord.” 2nd chapter of Joel, verse 31.

The Hebrew word for before is paniym, and means facing. Events of last year face this year and some of them had when-then quality, says Ruhling, citing the Iran Nuclear Treaty as an example of “When they say 'Peace and safety,' sudden destruction comes,” according the apostle Paul's 5th chapter to the Thessalonians.

Joel Richardson and other authors are seeing Daniel's 8th chapter as relevant. Daniel saw a ram with two horns (representing the kings of Media and Persia) stomped by a goat that flew from the west. Historians say this was fulfilled by Alexander the Great in 331 BC, but Gabriel said the vision is “at the time of the end,” verse 17. The Medes and Persians are now Iraq, Iran/ISIS. This vision for our time is half fulfilled with the horn of Saddam already broken.

Ruhling says God reveals the end from the beginning. God tested Abraham on his willingness to sacrifice his son, Isaac. Isaac was spared by a ram that was sacrificed instead of Isaac. Since Isaac was the father of Israel, the imagery suggests that God will sacrifice a militant Muslim ram, as the 8th of Daniel shows the ram stomped.
