Nowadays, majority of the population is suffering from one or the other health problem. Whenever we fall sick we rush to doctor who give us a list of medicines and we blindly follow them. We should stop, think and evaluate that medicines we are taking today as remedy to current illness will it prove harmful afterward?

There are many medicines which cure the disease but have many side effects and if they are ignored they can result into serious problems hence we need to be very careful and sensible while consuming drugs.

Are herbal medicines absolutely harmless?

Herbal medicines are generally preferred because they are said to have no side effects. Even if they are unable to cure a disease they will not have any bad effect on health.

But we cannot deny the fact that allopathic medicines which people consume because they are easy to take and provides instant relief have serious negative effects on heath. Herbal medicines are comparatively safe they involve natural substances prepared from alkaloids, minerals, essential oils etc. These substances have capacity to intake inorganic elements and convert them into life supporting elements.

Thus we can say that herbal medicines are safe and nature but following things should be kept in mind while selecting as complementary heath therapy.

Points to be Taken Care before Consuming Medicines

1. Do a detailed analysis before taking medicines. Find out its effects and side effects, how it is prepared, what herb are used in it etc.
2. Do consult with your doctor or physician, and then tally the suggestions of the doctor with your own research or analysis.
3. Buy those medicines which are approved by an authorized medical association and avoid buying local medicines which do not carry label.
4. Always check the date of manufacture and expiry date of the medicine.
5. Carefully go through the composition of the substances contained in the medicines and then decide whether medicine is completely made up of natural substances or it contains synthetic elements too.
6. Follow the usage directions given on the bottle of medicines. Do not take medicine according to your convenient time but according to the time given the recommended in the label of the medicines.
7. Consult a qualified physician regarding the dosage of the medicines. Over dosage can result into serious health problems whereas under dosage will lead to non effectiveness of the medicine.
8. Since herbal medicines are prepared from natural herbs and plants without adding and preservatives they have relative shorter shelf life and should be stored in a cool and dry place.
9. The herbal medicines should be protected from exposure to direct sunlight or high humidity. They should be stored in a cool and dry place.
