For anyone who has had to deal with cigarette odors, you'll know how difficult it is to eliminate. It sticks into your furniture, pillows, carpets, walls, windows, clothes and practically anything and anyone it comes in contact with.
For smokers who smoked indoors and then try to quit should try to eliminate the smell. Realizing the difference in the indoor air quality is a good step forward to quitting. The idea is that if you can't smell tobacco it will control your cravings.
We've compiled five effective ways to eliminate cigarette odors around the house.
1. Do not allow quests to smoke indoors. Designate a smoking area outside the house.
2. Invest in a good quality air purifier with a High-Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filter. While HEPA filters will not eliminate cigarette smell they are beneficial in other ways. They eliminate other undesirable particles such as pollen, dust, pet dander, mold and other allergens.
3. Call in the house-cleaners to wash the carpets, curtains and sofas, and take all of your clothes to the cleaners, or wash them yourself.
4. Invest in an good cold-air aromatherapy diffuser. While scents can mask odors you cannot completely remove cigarette smell through scenting. But you can hide the smell with lavender, lemon, bergamot and other oils.
Using a cold-air diffuser to disperse the scent around the house is a much better option because with the cold-air method the essential oil is not heated and doesn't lose any of its chemical integrity. Avoid using incense as they tend to pronounce the smoky scent and you just end up with a room that smells like "scented cigarette smoke".
5. Finally, there are new technologies that permanently destroy chemical substances which are the main components of tobacco smoke. Once these components are broken down the smell is also eliminated - permanently.
Steriwater spray is one such product. Developed at a leading university in Japan this anti-smoke spray is scientifically proven to break down chemical substances within tobacco smoke. It eliminates Acetaldehyde, Hydrogen Sulfide, Ammonia, Formaldehyde Fatty Acids, Hydrocarbons and Nitrogenous Compounds. And it comes in an easy to use spray bottle, which you can easily use to around your house to eliminate cigarette smell.
