Today’s Music Isn’t Just the Same

Music is symbolic of the temperament that a particular era features. From the ancient civilizations, music has been an important folk art in the society. When you compare contemporary music with the music that our grandfathers listened and enjoyed, you’ll note that music isn’t the same anymore. We have percussion, computer toning, and software jinxes that dominate the music scene today. There is no room for lyrics, soul-stirring ballads anymore. All the hippies of the yore want is to shake their booties and have fun at discotheques, and that is all that the music today offers.

When you listened to music of the Beatles era, you’ll note that the songs did have funky beats, modern rock, and foot-tapping background scores. However, the songs left a permanent mark on people because they addressed social problems, drug addictions, promoted peace, and talked about many other things that the current society does not care about. Each lyric that the music erstwhile era featured has a lot of emotion and poignant verses that touch your heart as they make you sway.

However, when you listen to the present day music, you cannot help but notice that the music lyrics and soul within the songs have diminished paving the way for mindless rap, remixes, and software vocals doing the rounds. Youngsters are fascinated with these forms of music and often are heard humming modern-day tunes. Due to the fact that singers have a wide market in commercial, mindless, foot-tapping stuff, that is all they belt out. There are ballads sung once in a while, but they find no takers at all. Today’s music is not about critical acclaim, it is about how successful you are and how many copies you manage to sell.

The next big difference in the music then and now is that the singers back then were asked to train their voices so as to manage a volley of emotions and the pitches within a song. However, today, all the singers need to do is sing and the composers have heavy electronics to modulate the voice frequencies and produce picture perfect voices with all the minor gaffes corrected. Thus, today, we have perfect voices that are instrument modulated. In some cases, they do touch our heart. But, otherwise, the sounds are very robotic in nature.
