There are some of us out there that have a strange infatuation with the future. Why not? Thinking about how great things could be if we had time to develop our life plans and goals is what we dream about as kids. I used to think about what I was going to do with my life when I got older. I dreamed of being someone big and important. I never thought of a plan to get there, I just figured I would just know what to do at that point. Once I became older, I stopped calling it the "future" and started calling it "tomorrow".

There was a time in which I believed in tomorrow. I was so enthralled with tomorrow that I had a slight crush on it. I always talked about it. Fantasized about it even. "Tomorrow is going to be the day!" "Tomorrow is going to be different!" "Tomorrow you'll see!" I was so infatuated with tomorrow that I felt emotional when I thought about it. I got so convinced in fact about tomorrow, that I based my whole life around it. Tomorrow was that friend that always left me hanging due to something always coming up, and I started a love/hate relationship with it. I started expecting tomorrow to show up, or I was going to get mad. So, for the longest time, I stayed mad at tomorrow. Because tomorrow never came.

One day I got sick and tired of being sick and tired, and then I met today. Today was actually the one there all along, begging to help me change my life, so I chose to give today a chance. Today is harder on me than tomorrow, mainly because I became the one that has show up. Today keeps me honest, because today is always there. I have to be on my "A" game with today. Today is full of drive and determination. You have to be strong of will to hang with today. You have to make plans for today, and stick with them no matter what happens, or today will just pass you by and never give you a second chance again.

If you are like me and want to attract change in yourself, your life, your very being even, then you have to let go of tomorrow. I can tell you from experience, tomorrow never changes. It is still always just out of reach, not just for me, but for everyone. It is the Siren out on the rocks the sailors fear, because many have lost their way, even their lives, waiting for her to come to them, blindly following her call. Once I got away from her hypnotizing spell, I found that today is a much better companion than tomorrow could ever hope to be. Today is always with us all, always at the here and now, always moving and never stopping. Tomorrow is never and today is always. I love my new best friend, today. You can too. Just believe in today, keep moving with it, and it will never let you down.

I was watching my six and nine year old daughters playing the other morning when suddenly there was a barrage of I Hate You and I Don't Like You Anymore statements flying about the room. Of course, it was just a moment of disagreement in child play, but the thoughts and feelings were real enough to them at that moment.
