Treatment In the moderate and initial stages of heart arrhythmias, cardiologists provide medications for the patient. It has to be acknowledged that if there is no impact on the overall well being of the patient then heart arrhythmia can be left untreated. But if it's causing problems then an effective course of treatment is a necessity. As it has been noticed medications can fail to perform their prescribed goals instead, some patients can develop side effects from the use of such medications. As an alte ative to these problems, cardiac ablation, a surgical procedure which can be performed through an open heart surgery or transcatheter insertion have been developed for patients of heart arrhythmia. Cardiac ablation is the most recommended procedure for treating the abnormal rate of the heartbeat which is medically termed as, heart arrhythmia. The methodology used for cardiac ablation is based on the fact that if the abnormal heartbeat causing stimulant can be destroyed, the optimal rate of the heartbeat can be restored, this is exactly how a variety of its forms have been developed to treat the underlying reason for heart arrhythmia. Cardiac ablation works with either of the two basic approaches. In one case the cardiologist tries to remove the unwanted tissues in the heart which are causing abnormality in the optimal rate of heartbeat or otherwise the focus of cardiac ablation is based upon stopping the reach of electric signals which are causing heart arrhythmia in the first place. Risks Cardiac ablation is an integrated approach to surgically intervene in the condition of arrhythmia and likewise provide successful outcomes for the restoration of the optimal rate of heartbeat. But since cardiac ablation has to be performed through surgery, the number of risks involved in this process are increased. Firstly, cardiac ablation is already a treatment for a cardiovascular problem and secondly, it has to be done through a surgical procedure. In short, the patient should set realistic goals before opting for this procedure by considering the associated risks of complications. The levels of surgical precision throughout the entire process of cardiac ablation should be high because the operating region is heart which is a very complex structure and it is sensitive at the same time. Any sort of misapplied step or dislocation of the insertion area of the medical instruments can cause huge risks. If the insertion of the catheter is not proper, the chances of bleeding at the site of its insertion and progression of infections increase. Not only that, the inserted catheter on its way to reaching the operating region in the heart (the insertion point can be groin or leg) can also become a threat to the condition of the blood vessels it comes in contact with. High maintenance of accuracy and use of high-end precision medical instruments can be helpful to deplete the risks in these cases. The structure of the entire heart including its chambers and valves are at risk of getting damaged due to cardiac ablation. In some cases, the risks have been accumulated particularly at the valves of the heart which started misfunctioning after cardiac ablation. In another scenario, the treatment provided against the heart arrhythmia actually became a worse situation due to the impact of this process on the electrical system of the heart. Experts in the field recommend treatment alte atives which can be performed against these risks. For instance, in the former case, various surgeries are available and in the latter situation, the insertion of a pacemaker is a productive option. The risks of complications associated with cardiac ablation are varied, their extent can also be felt upon different organs of the human body. Some patients complaint of venous thromboembolism in their legs or lungs which basically initiated formation of blood clots. The normal structure of veins which carry them to and forth between the lungs and heart can narrow down leading to pulmonary vein stenosis, in some cases. Unlike the risks caused by surgical insertion of medical instruments, the kidneys are at risk due to the special dye which is used during this procedure. In rare cases, the patients can experience a stroke or heart attack which are life-threatening medical conditions. On a similar average, a fatality has been reported.
