INTRODUCTION

Strenuous exercise, Lifting heavyweight at the gym, or the job site can lead to chest pain, as can overuse of your arms, like carrying a baby and severe coughing can cause costochondritis.
ARTHRITIS
Costochondritis is linked to specific problems, such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, or other conditions that affect your cartilage.
JOINT INFECTION
Certain viruses or respiratory conditions, such as Bacterial infections, especially in people who use IV drugs or have had surgery near their upper chest, Fungal infections (in rare cases) tuberculosis and syphilis, aspergillosis — can infect the rib joint and can cause joint inflammation.
TUMORS
Noncancerous and cancerous tumors can cause costochondritis. The cancer spread from joint to another part of the body, such as the breast, thyroid or lungs, when cancer spreads to the chest area, it can cause pain and inflammation which leads to costochondritis.
SYMPTOMS of Costochondritis
- Pain in the chest wall
- Feeling of tende ess in the chest
- Strain while coughing.
- Signs of inflammation near the chest area.
- The pain usually lasts for a few weeks or months, but some cases require proper treatment.
DIAGNOSIS of Costochondritis
Usually, it requires a physical examination of the chest area, doctor examine by pressing on your chest to check for areas of tende ess. Tests are done to assess the risk for coronary artery disease, a blood clot, or any respiratory infection, your doctor may order additional tests like a chest X-ray, echocardiogram, and blood tests. These tests will help to rule out the exact cause of chest pain or Costochondritis
HOW IS IT TREATED?
In minor cases, there is no specific treatment required and can be managed by home remedies. These home measures include pain killers, avoiding heavy and strenuous exercises and weight lifting, and doing some stretching exercises, ice packs, or heat packs. In severe cases, proper treatment is required to prevent any further damage.
