The first step in making the most profitable decisions with your marketing; is to look at your past successes. How have you got clients in the past? List out every single thing you have ever done to get clients in the past.
Your next step is to take that list of business getting activities and turn it into two other list.
The Dependable List:
This list you know that if you take a specific action you will get a specific result. The activities on this list might be the more challenging activities, like cold calling, or some form of direct marketing. But they work. After you put all of these activities into one list, put them in order of effectiveness.
The Easy List:
There are specific actions that you have taken in the past that put you in the right places at the right time to get clients. These results usually aren't consistent but they are easy. An example might be that you have got leads from the secretary just by being at your office.
Your next steps:
Now that you have your two list, you need to spend the majority of your time with the activities at the top of your dependable list. And you need to keep an eye open to align yourself with being able to take advantage of the activities on the easy list. Doing this keeps you in the best place to grow your business.
Exploring New Opportunities:
There are a lot of new and great opportunities to get new clients like social media, SEO and video marketing. Never give up the time you dedicate to your dependable list of client getting activities to explore new opportunities. You always have to take into consideration the learning curve of new marketing activities. And you always have to take into consideration the gestation period of turning a new lead into a customer. That is why momentum is king and once you find a way to get clients that works for you; its important to commit to that above all else.
