Unhustle?

I help lead two communities where always striving for more is the norm. As a leader with my eyes wide open I notice trends in how people act and respond when they first are exposed to these communities that are focused on seeking excellence in personal development. The people we attract are a unique blend of humans from all walks of life with one thing in common…
We want more in life and are willing to work hard to get there.
We take pride in our “can-do” mindset and our ability to keep going forward towards our most fulfilling lives. We go at a faster pace. Each day, we do more than most. We are always looking for new ideas and connections to help us get there faster and better.
Could this be the wrong path for some?

I have also noticed some in our communities get overly excited when they spend time with others who also want more. Sometimes they can go a bit overboard. Often, they bite off more than they can chew either in promised obligations or debt for programs, investments, and/or new businesses. They get in over their head and keep digging!

Some even quit their “day” jobs with an idea, no reasonable source of new income, and a head full of “Hopium.” This can be a good plan for a few. But for most it’s a disaster.

This situation is a legitimate conce
for the leaders of these growth and personal development communities that I’m close to.
Wanting more in life is natural for many of us. But being happy and content is important too. Are these mastermind groups the answer for everybody? Heck no!

There is no one “best” way forward. We are all different and must find our own groove and grow at our own pace. We all have different wants, challenges, talents, and connections. We all come into the “game” at different places.

So how should one think and act when first exposed to mastermind groups like 1Life, Miracle Morning, EMERGE and Gobundance?
Here are Tim’s Top 10 Tips for making sure you get this “Life Thing” right!

1. Let the game come to you. Observe, meet many, ask lots of questions, take lots of notes, study your niche market, and then proceed slowly.

2. Find allies to help you grow. Get 2-4 people with common interests and meet regularly to hold each other accountable for your written intentions.

3. Make a sprint and marathon plan for yourself and use them to create a ROADMAP to your best life possible.

4. Keep your well paying W2 gig as long as it isn’t “rusty.” Don’t quit your day job right away! Build up to it slowly as you go.

5. Know and play the natural business cycles over the long haul and use this information to make smart, informed decisions.

6. Learn how to wisely run and manage “The Business of Your Life.”

7. Don’t get life FOMO (Fear of Missing Out). Watch, learn, and study other models but always play YOUR game!

8. Pick a sustainable pace and be aware of where you are on your own burn out cycle. Create a plan that is consistently sustainable, rather than rushing forward and moving too fast trying to do all the things… only to get tired and quit.

9. Know how much is enough for you. Set a goal unique to your life and situation and then go after it.

10. Absolutely, day in and day out, only do YOU!

About the Author

Tim would tell you that he got off to a slow start. After growing up in the rural town of Portola in Northern Califo
ia and barely graduating high school, Tim Rhode found himself at the age of 25 working as a grocery clerk with two young children to provide for.

He eventually found his “niche” selling real estate; and from 1986 to 2000, he sold over 2,500 homes and from 1997 to 2006 he invested in over 100 properties. Tim focused on saving money, keeping his expenses low, and playing solid “financial defense” which allowed him to basically retire, and he was financially free at the age of 40.

Not wanting to play hike, bike or ski all day, Tim threw his energy into his true passion: helping people thrive and live their most fulfilling life. He founded the nonprofit 1Life Fully Lived to help people of all ages gain the tools and skills they need to thrive and also co-founded GoBundance, a high-level mastermind, with David Osborn, Pat Hiban and Mike McCarthy to help healthy, wealthy, generous people lead epic lives. We have a women’s tribe now!

Tim has also authored numerous books and has been featured on a variety of podcasts and media outlets. He now lives near his children in the High Sierras with his wife and dog.

Sometimes, it’s not what you see, but what you feel. Ever notice how some buildings just feel solid? No creeping unease. No instinct telling you to check for the nearest exit. Just a quiet, unshakable sense that you’re in a place built to protect. That feeling isn’t random. It’s the result of smart choices—ones made long before anyone steps inside. The materials, the design, the way everything is built to handle the unexpected, even factors like fire ratings that determine
