A lack of time is one of the obstacles that many people blame for the lack of organization in their lives. Job responsibilities, housekeeping tasks, family commitments and other activities do take up quite a bit of time for most people. However, a busy lifestyle doesn't have to prevent you from getting your life and home more organized. In fact, a more organized lifestyle can actually save you a lot of time and effort in the long run. If you never seem to have enough time to get organized, the "Ten Minute" organizational method could be just what you need.
Just Ten Minutes
If you ask most people what they could accomplish in ten minutes, chances are their answer would be "not very much." However, you might be surprised how much productivity can be squeezed into ten little minutes. If you have a large job that you never seem to have time to start, much less finish, try breaking it up into small ten minute segments. For example, if your home office is messy and disorganized, you probably aren't very productive while working in it. Although you might think you just don't have enough time to get it cleaned and organized, that's probably because you are thinking of the entire job, not the individual tasks. Even if you don't have an entire day to devote to cleaning and organizing your office, if you took just ten minutes each day, that would add up to approximately five hours over the course of a month. Just imagine how much you could get done in five hours! Even if your life is very busy, you probably have at least ten spare minutes each day. So, why not put them to good use?
Breaking Big Jobs into Ten Minute Tasks
The ability to break big jobs down into simple tasks that can be accomplished in ten minutes is the secret behind the "Ten Minute" organization method. If you can master this technique, there's practically no limit to what you can accomplish. When breaking down a job, look for ways that you can streamline the process in order to get it done faster. For example, cleaning off the top of your desk could be quite difficult if your desk drawers are too messy to put things away properly. In fact, by putting the items from the top of your desk into drawers that are already messy, you'd probably just be making your office even more disorganized and inefficient. Instead, devote ten minutes each day to cleaning out just one of the drawers. If your desk has three drawers on each side and one in the middle, you'll have the entire job completed in just one week. Then, the task of cleaning the top of your desk will be quite easy and much less frustrating.
Try applying this same technique to every facet of your life and home that is currently disorganized. You might be surprised how quickly you can get everything organized, efficient and in tip-top shape.
