Many people consume snacks when they are bored and usually end up fat. This is probably why many fitness and fat loss coaches advise people to not snack. However, although most people think that snacking is always detrimental for your weight loss purposes, it can actually be helpful, and help you achieve a lean and strong body!
When you snack, these foods should preferably be full of complex carbohydrates with lots of fiber to keep you feeling full for longer periods of time. They should also be high in protein to help build your lean muscle mass. Also, consuming more protein will cause more calories to be burnt as your body needs more energy to process protein. These snacks can be as simple and easy to prepare as a handful of baked nuts or just a pear along with a slice of low-fat cheese. Try taking some fresh fruits, oatmeal or sunflower seeds as snacks. Tuna and pistachios are also good choices for snacks.
You should always decide what snack you are going to have for the day, and keep them with you even when you go out; this way, you will make sure that you will only snack on healthy foods no matter what you do and where you go. The ideal times to snack is approximately two hours before your next meal. You can reduce the amount of calories you usually take at your normal meals. Fueling your body with healthy snacks in moderation throughout the day will help keep your blood sugar levels more stable, maintaining a higher metabolism rate.
Most fitness coaches also shun the sugary snacks. Such snacks are definitely not beneficial for your fat loss purposes, but I will not recommend removing it completely from your diet. When you are used to taking large amounts of this now, you will crave it greatly when you suddenly remove it from your diet. Instead, simply reduce the consumption of such foods to a bare minimum.
Make sure to also drink sufficient amount of water. Thirst is commonly mistaken as hunger, and causes you to overeat unnecessarily. This is also a common reason why people gain weight.
You should think of your metabolism as an engine. When you increase its power and capacity, you will still be able to burn more calories even by sitting still or lying on the couch. Therefore, what you should work on to increase your fat loss results is to improve your metabolism rate.
