Written by Grant Donovan

The food you eat is responsible for more than just producing energy, which is why you should focus more on ways to eat healthy. Whether you seek a body transformation or optimum nutrition, you need to learn the basics of a healthy diet. While everybody knows that eating healthy is crucial, they often end up confused when it comes to finding a way. Consuming healthy food means balancing your calories and nutritional count. While all of this needs attention, what else matters is that you enjoy eating healthy. Unless you find ways of eating healthy, you will never make it a habit. Good news is that we have come up with some ways for you to eat healthy. So when you need to prioritize your health before everything consider these diet tips.
Top ways to eat healthy and stick to it!
Find Your Plan
Eating unhealthy food is very fast and convenient when you are in a rush. Plus your taste buds love unhealthy carbs, and the initial days are generally the hardest. When the food looks delicious and smells good, it becomes easy to give in to your cravings. However, the challenge is to find a plan that you can stick to, no matter how much you are lured into surrendering. That doesn't mean you need to eat dull flavorless food like plain chicken breast and steamed veggies. You can follow a healthy diet without getting bored. Eat whatever you want, but make sure you balance it out on the rest of the days. For example, if you are going to eat a heavy dinner, stick to a light lunch.
Don’t Abstain from Whole Grains

Carbs have gotten a bad wrap with all of the fad diets out there and over processed junk carbs. Making better food choices is crucial to eat healthy and clean. The right food ensures you are getting the right nutrients and vitamins essential for your body. Include whole grains in your diet, especially the ones untouched by processing. Just because something comes with a tag that says ‘whole grain’ doesn’t mean it's really whole grain. Look at the ingredients to make sure your whole grain food items don’t have any added sugar. Consuming whole grains gives your body more fiber, antioxidants, and inflammation-fighting phytonutrients. It helps people who try to lose weight and keep them in shape. Some whole grains you should include in your diet are brown rice, quinoa, barley, and oatmeal.
Cut Down on Processed Food
Limit your processed food intake. If you are out grocery shopping and happen to come across a product where you don’t understand the ingredients, then don’t buy it. This should be your first step when you are trying to figure out how to start eating healthy. The chances are high that the food item is processed and is not suitable for your body. Stay away from any food item that has refined grains, partially hydrogenated oils or added sugar in it. No doubt processed foods are convenient, but most are unhealthy and can give you a guilt trip. Instead of buying processed food, take out some time to make a home-cooked meal. If you can’t cook every day, then make a big batch and store it properly for leftovers.
How much Sodium is Too Much?
Watch out for too much salt intake. Just like sugar we have a tendency to over-consume sodium. In a day you must only have one teaspoon of salt, which is about 2300 milligrams. If you have high blood pressure, chronic diseases like diabetes, and kidney problems, then you must reduce it more. Most of the sodium present in our diet sneaks in through processed food. All the more reason to cut down on them. Yes, salt is essential to bring out the flavor in your food but use it sparingly. You can try cooking with dried herbs and vinegar or add citrus to your diet to have a flavor burst.
Keep Healthy Snacks close
Giving your diet a healthy twist is not that challenging when you are at home, you can cook and control what is in your kitchen. But, when you are out for a long period of time, the challenge to eat clean intensifies. When you are hungry on the road and don’t see many options, you are likely to eat unhealthy foods. This can completly wreck your entire diet plan. Keep healthy snacks rich in protein with you to curb your appetite. These snacks will keep you full and save you from hunger cravings till you find something healthy.
Include Nuts and Seeds in Your Diet

One of the best ways to eat healthy is to add plenty of nuts and seeds to your diet. The nuts and seeds like almonds, cashews, hazelnuts, peanuts, pecans, pistachios are packed with healthy fiber. You also get the benefit of other vital nutrients such as Vitamin E, folic acid, and potassium. These nuts and seeds are abundant in hearty unsaturated fats giving enough nourishment to your body.
Stay Away From Saturated Fats
Saturated fats like butter, cheese, and lard bring nothing healthy to your diet. In Fact, these increase the risk of heart diseases and lead to clogged arteries. These saturated fats raise to the levels of bad cholesterol in your body, which is why you should cut them out of your diet. However, instead of saturated fats, include healthy fats to your diet. The healthy unsaturated fats are healthy for your heart and brain function. Some sources include olive oil, coconut oil, canola oil, walnuts, almonds, seeds, avocados, salmon, and other fatty fish. Be selective of the fats you are consuming and add unsaturated fats to your diet.
Include Berries in Your Diet
Berries, blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, go with everything and enhance the taste of most foods. Besides tasting good, these berries are rich in antioxidant properties, which slows down the process of aging. They say It does wonders for your skin by keeping the wrinkles at bay. Furthermore, it decelerates the decline of brain functions, which happen as a result of aging. The berries may come across as small fruits but come packed with significant benefits. These further lower inflammation, prevent arteries from clogging, and offer protection against cancer. With their impressive health benefits count these as some great superfoods available.
Incorporate Fruits And Vegetables In Your Meals

No diet plan can be called healthy if there are no fruits and vegetables in it. Vegetables and fruits are abundant in vitamins, fiber, and essential minerals. They are low in calories and you don’t have to worry about weight gain. All you need to worry about is controlling the portion size. Add at least 2 cups of fruits and 2.5 cups of vegetables in your meal plan every day.
If you are hitting the road, then carry fruits like apples, bananas or pears. These fruits are a healthy alte ative for snacking options and do not require refrigeration. Also, if you are eating out, order freshly made sandwiches or salads with garden vegetables. Avoid food that comes with fried vegetables although they are veggies they lose their nutritional value once they are battered and deep-fried. Ask for steamed veggies on the side if you do not want to lose out on nutrition.
Pick the Right Meat
Men like to eat meat, and there is nothing wrong with that. However, if you are eating red meat, then don’t eat it frequently as it leads to higher body cholesterol. Also, skip meat that is cooked in saturated fat as again all the nutrients are lost. Instead of a fillet steak, opt for lean meat pieces without the fats. Even if you want to have red meat, then go for the lean parts as its full of iron, zinc and vitamins B. If it's chicken that you are cooking then buy skinless chicken. While you love your meat try to incorporate fish that is rich in unsaturated fats to your diet plan.
Have Water before your Meals
Overeating often contributes to unhealthy eating. Having water in intervals curbs your hunger and helps you against unnecessary cravings. Hydration is beneficial for your body, and if you want tornmake a healthy change in your diet, try it with having water before meals.
These are a few ways to eat healthy to introduce dramatic changes in your lifestyle. These ways are effective in stopping you from binge-eating. While exercise is necessary, eating right also plays a crucial role for you to keep fit. These surprising yet straightforward ways are likely what you need to adapt to a healthy way of living.
