We forget that Jesus was a Human

For most of us, our faith is on a level where we evaluate our behavior, we consider our relationship with God, we remain humble and grateful for the grace and blessings we receive, one breath at a time.

We seem to lose the everyday realities - until we face a crisis, or loss, or deep emotional anguish. It is when we feel most vulnerable that God becomes the absolute center of our lives.

It is then, when we have no choice left, that we BELIEVE.

It is when we cry out in desperation, tears flowing and knocked to the ground that God finds himself at the center of our attention.

It is the moment of submission that we meet our Father, on His terms.

When we are at our weakest, we discover God's power, His majesty...

It was at a moment like this that I was reminded that Jesus was a human like me, like you. He was human, really human. Weak, like us, just like us...

Romans 8:3,4 The Passion Translation (TPT) - For God achieved what the law was unable to accomplish because the law was limited by the weakness of human nature. Yet God sent us his Son in human form to identify with human weakness. Clothed with humanity, God’s Son gave his body to be the sin-offering so that God could once and for all condemn the guilt and power of sin. So now every righteous requirement of the law can be fulfilled through the Anointed One living his life in us. And we are free to live, not according to our flesh, but by the dynamic power of the Holy Spirit!

It is hard to imagine sometimes. Jesus just a boy, teenager, young man. He has all the difficulties, all the problems, all the feelings.

Until it was time for his mission to start, it would seem that He lived an unremarkable life. Loved or hated His job, got paid, He had to budget, plan and save. He probably noticed a young girl or two, and some probably noticed Him. Even though preciously little is known about this phase of His life, I will show in the next few paragraphs that He was 100% human.

He loved, and cried;

John 11:33 - 36 New International Version (NIV) - When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come along with her also weeping, he was deeply moved in spirit and troubled. “Where have you laid him?” he asked. “Come and see, Lord,” they replied. Jesus wept. Then the Jews said, “See how he loved him!” (Lazarus)

He felt anger;

Mark 11:15-16 New International Version (NIV) - On reaching Jerusalem, Jesus entered the temple courts and began driving out those who were buying and selling there. He overtu
ed the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves, and would not allow anyone to carry merchandise through the temple courts.

He was overwhelmed;

Matthew 26:37-38 New International Version (NIV) - He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee along with him, and he began to be sorrowful and troubled. Then he said to them, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.”

He interacted with humans as a human;

Luke 7:34 New International Version (NIV) - The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’

There are many more scriptures that show that He was fully human. This was done for a reason.

Hebrews 2: 14-18 New International Version (NIV) - Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil— and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. For surely it is not angels he helps, but Abraham’s descendants. For this reason, he had to be made like them, fully human in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people. Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.

So when you feel emotional - sad, desperate, lonely, alone, rejected, tempted, unworthy, happy, overjoyed, betrayed, tired, tempted, hated, rejected or revered - remember...

Romans 8:33-35 New International Version (NIV) - Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?

Jesus Christ, our Lord, our Redeemer - LIVES - and at this very moment is pleading with His father on our behalf...

Yes, that is what gratitude feels like...
