What a Wonderful World…

The hot topics around both board room tables and dinner tables these days pertain to the doom and gloom that we face in these times of great uncertainty. We are a culture that has become fixated on the problems of the world and a bleak future. And as we immerse ourselves in fear based thoughts and conversations about limitation and loss, guess what keeps showing up in our life?

Do you ever think or say things like: “I can’t do it”, “It shouldn’t be this way”, “Life is unfair”, “He makes me angry/sad/jealous, “What have I done to deserve this”?”, Why me?” …Argue for these things - and they are yours!

When do we ever halt our terror train of thought and rather concentrate on the benefits of our experiences, especially the worst of them? How often do we stop to count our blessings and be grateful for what we have? What for, time is running, these ideas are pie in the sky and I’ve got more important things to do right now! Really, is that true???

Our internal maps of reality don’t accurately represent what’s actually going on out there. Yet we go about haste fully planning and organizing our lives based on outdated beliefs of what is right versus wrong and coloured perceptions of positivity versus negativity. Eventually we hit the stumbling block and the world as we know it comes crashing down.

Then we “get over it” again, because that’s what we’re told to do. We change gears and try to move on, but like hamsters in a wheel, going faster and faster in hope that we’ll outrun reality and reach some fabricated goal that’s supposed to be the solution to all our problems, and never is (the house, marriage, job, etc). So we remain in our illusory cage and hope and pray for a better day. We could think outside the box and open the door to new possibilities, but why would we when our familiar comfort zones (despite how uncomfortable they may have become) seem a lot safer than the unfamiliar world out there?

There is no magic potion to cure the malady of today. There is no quick fix, no ultimate solution and no hero to make it all go away. No amount of suppressing, pretending or hiding is going to distance us from our current situation. Only when we can be with life as it is, do we have the choice to change its direction. The twists and turns of life are not a problem to be solved but a reality to be experienced.

Our wonderful world with all its beauty, opportunity and splendor; along with the current state of our global economy, crime and conflict is the one we’re living in. It is the way it is because of the way we are.

When William Shakespeare said, there is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so, and when Buddha declared, all that we are is the result of what we have thought; these wise men understood that we don’t see the world as it is, we see the world as we are.

When Albert Einstein suggested that the significant problems we face cannot be solved at the same level of thinking we were at when we created them, and when William James announced, the greatest discovery of his generation is that a human being can alter their life by altering their attitudes; these scientists also realised that our minds create our reality.

Your thoughts are not contained within the vessel you call your body. They are not limited to space and time. Where does your mind end and my mind begin? We are co-creating our reality, our mind is everything. When we think and believe coherently, anything is possible!

When we change our selves by changing our thoughts we will see a new world and that’s what the world will then begin to become. The more there are of us becoming Authentically Self Empowered, the more we will begin to experience a world that everyone wants to be part of. And it begins with you!

Let’s commit today to sever our relationship with thoughts of limitation and loss. Let’s stop running in the old wheel and be brave enough to leave our familiar cage. Let’s begin to think about and behave like the successful and prosperous people that we are. Let’s be the change that we want to see in the world. Starting now!

I was watching my six and nine year old daughters playing the other morning when suddenly there was a barrage of I Hate You and I Don't Like You Anymore statements flying about the room.
