If you are one of the many people that suffer from kidney stones then you may be currently wondering what causes kidney stones and why this problem has happened to you.
For the most part, renal stone disease, the correct medical term for this painful condition is an inherited problem that runs in families. This means that if your parents of grandparents were prone to kidney stones, there is a good chance that you may be prone to them as well.
There are several other reasons as to why these stones occur in the body and the most common will include the following:
- High levels of calcium, Cystine, oxalate, Uric acid and sodium in the urine. These are generally compounds that cause the stones to form and when there is too much in the body, they collect in the kidneys and then the kidney stones begin to form. This can be both a long process and a relatively short one and in some cases, people do not even realize that this has happened as the tinier stones are passed in the urine without the patient even knowing.
- Something called hypocitraturia is normally present in the body but when there are low levels of this, kidney stones can form.
When looking at what causes kidney stones, there are a number of other medical complaints that can lead to the stones forming and these include the following:
- Arthritisn • Goutn • Urinary tract infectionsn • Colitisn • High blood pressuren • Renal tubular acidosis
So, if you have any of the above medical complaints, you should be especially aware of the symptoms of kidney stones and also the likelihood that these can happen to you.
A poor diet can very often contribute to kidney stones and in particular, what causes kidney stones. Those that consume large amounts of meat in their diet are prone to getting them as are people with a diet that is low in carbohydrates and vegetable proteins. High levels of sugar, sodium and fat in the diet can also lead to the formation of kidney stones.
Kidney stones that are made from excess oxalate can be caused when a person consumes too much in the way of Vitamin C which just goes to show that too many daily multivitamins can actually be harmful to a person. Certain vegetables are also known to contain high amounts of oxalates such as squash, green beans and spinach and also certain fruits such as tomatoes and cranberries.
