What Is A Course in Miracles?

A Course in Miracles (ACIM) is a brilliant form of spiritual psychotherapy which brings peace, purpose, love and joy into our lives. It is three books under one cover: the Text, Workbook for Students, and Manual for Teachers.

The Course offers us a liberating new definition of forgiveness. As we use its forgiveness practice, our sense of identity is transformed. There is no turning back–our spiritual awakening process has begun.

Some people come to ACIM for a new understanding of the bible and Jesus’ message. Some people appreciate the mixture of Eastern and Western theology. Some, like myself, are drawn to the spiritual psychology of the Course. It comes as no surprise that A Course in Miracles came to fruition through two psychologists/professors of medical psychology.

Beginning in 1965, Dr. Helen Schucman received inner dictation from a voiceless Voice which identified Itself as Jesus and she scribed over 1,200 pages of material which eventually was published as A Course in Miracles. The process took seven years. She couldn’t have done it without Dr. William Thetford, the head of the department in which she worked at Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons. Bill was the catalyst for the process when he suggested to Helen one day, “There must be another way” for them to interact, and for the entire department in which they worked to have a more harmonious relationship. A Course in Miracles supports practical application of Course concepts rather than academic or theoretical discussion. We can practice becoming a “happy learner” as the Course puts it, by actually doing (not just reading) the 365 workbook lessons.

Some topics covered in A Course in Miracles are how to disce
and take guidance from the Voice of the Holy Spirit (your Internal Teacher), accessing the Holy Instant, observing the ego with Jesus, removing blocks and obstacles to the awareness of Love’s presence, how to become a miracle worker, deepening your understanding of and capacity for forgiveness, practicing Inner Peace and more.

In addition to forgiveness, Jesus also offers us new definitions of religious, psychological and mystical concepts, such as salvation, Atonement, crucifixion, ego, projection, denial, and illusion. A Course in Miracles is a powerfully gentle, uncompromising way to understand that we are the dreamer of a dream of the world and humanity, and offers an awakening process to realize our true spiritual nature and God-Self.
