No doubt you’ve heard of Life Coaching. As one of the hot, new, trendy buzzwords on the market, it’s hard not to be intrigued by this service. However, it does leaves one wondering, ‘exactly what is a life coach?’nnSo...what is a life coach? Coaching works with individuals who are ready to create big transitions in their life and need help uncovering their own answers of how to achieve their goals. Frequently misunderstood as psychotherapy or counseling, a life coach actually works with their clientele to move forward into a vision or a set of goals. Psychology would look backward to understand why a client is stuck and what might need to be healed. Another profession that life coaching is often confused with is consultancy. While a consultant will tell you exactly what you need to do to get where you want to go, a coach will instead ask you questions to help you find your own way. Coaching is an unbiased partnership to help you create the lifestyle you want.nnWhat can a coach help with? Coaching is an effective tool for individuals who are looking for accountability, personal empowerment, focus and motivation. As you enter into a coaching relationship, topics such as time management, confidence, taking responsibility and work-life balance will often arise. Your coach will help you create a personalized action plan to smoothly take control of these areas. Using your individual strengths and unique talents, this plan will feel natural and authentic to how you want to live.nnHow do I find a coach? Finding a coach is easy thanks to the internet. You can search sites such as:nn- http://www.ICFCharlotte.orgnn- http://www.coachfederation.org/nn- http://www.findacoach.com/ Most coaches work by phone or in person and offer sessions between 30 and 60 minutes long. This means they don’t have to be in your state, or even in the country for them to coach you. You can ‘interview’ a couple of coaches by taking advantage of their complimentary session (which most coaches offer) and see if you feel comfortable with their style. From there, you’ll discuss rates, coaching packages and scheduling. As a largely unregulated field, pay attention to credentials. Most coaching schools offer a certification upon completion, but there are three nationally recognized credentials from the International Coach Federation. Those are: ACC (Associate Certified Coach), PCC (Professional Certified Coach) and MCC (Master Certified Coach).nnHow much of an investment is a coach? Most life coaches charge between $200 and $500 depending on how long they’ve been in business and what their credentials are. Often you can find coaching for less if a coach offers groups or products, so be sure to look into the websites of coaches you’re interested in hiring. Coaching can be a valuable kick-start to anyone who is ready to make a change in themselves or their lifestyle. Think: dedicated time specifically for your needs on a weekly basis, accountability as you move forward and specialized questions and exercises to help you get really clear on what you truly want.nnClick here for more information on life coaching.
