Recently I was teaching a class and asked the question, what does abundance mean to you? Personally I was expecting the answers to relate to money. Surprisingly, abundance to those in this room was everything but money. I heard statements like: never having to worry, being happy, able to do what I want and being able to be with my family.

Intertwined with these statements is money, because to experience them you would need some to create these situations. The money you earn should bring you happiness. Not because you can buy things. Americans have more things and wealth than the rest of the planet, yet are far below other nations as far as happiness.

Over the past year I have spent more time at home and less time buying things. My contentment with my life has risen dramatically. Instead of planning shopping trips, I spend time sitting and looking out on our pond. No longer is my day split by eating lunch out, I make lunch at home. Everyday there is time to walk my dogs and be with nature.

Our lives are filled with messages that keep us constantly living in the future of what we feel we should be doing. Abundance can be about having dinner with the family, taking a walk and enjoying the sun, the luxury of a bath and the quiet time it brings.

Abundance can be about happiness and it is your choices that will create it. Take a few minutes everyday using a gratitude journal or just write down what has made you feel abundant for that day. As you practice this daily expression of gratitude you may find that your abundance is different that what you thought.

Choose abundance and create happiness in your life, you deserve it.
