In Information Technology, USB password protection is a phrase used to describe the procedure of putting a password on USB drives or on the files and folders that you kept in your USB drives, so that no one can access your files without your permission. USB Password protection is the most basic aspect of USB security and almost every USB security software uses it.
USB Password protection offers you an approach to secure your USB drive from snooping eyes and to thwart unauthorized users from getting rights to use your confidential information that can charge you money and even your job if ended up with the erroneous hands.
As the Information Technology has progressed a lot and people are now making their kismet on the web, and for that reason they want to secure their information. For example; credit card numbers is one of the main targets of the cyberpunks that are constantly looking for the way to hack into your bank account. Since now that profitable trading on the web has become a reality, no one can ever neglect the importance of password protection.
You can avail USB password protection with or without software. If you do not want to use any software for accomplishing this protection, you can use your Operating System built in properties and set a password for your files.
Password Protection without Softwarer
Using Windows XP to Password Protect Files:
Windows offers an easy way to password protect your files, you can use the security tab in Windows and remove other users to prevent them from getting access to your files. Furthermore, you can also set Windows login password so that you need not to protect individual files.
Using Linux/UNIX for to Password Protection:
Most Linux and UNIX systems have got these permissions set so that no one other than administrators can see your folders you can enforce these restrictions via "chmod go-rxw ".
Password Protection with Softwarer
There are many software available in the market that can password protect USB drive. Many locking software have this password protection as their basic feature. You can find many freeware as well as shareware software to password protect your USB drive, but I would suggest you to choose shareware software as they are more reliable and secure.
You can choose depending upon your requirements as what you want to protect and what level of protection you want. There is some USB security software that can only protect and secure USB drive with the help of password, and there is some other software like USB Secure which can protect USB drive, jump drive, pen drive, thumb drive and memory cards as well as exte
al hard drives.
On the other hand, there are some security software that offers password protection along with the data protection like file locking software, data encryption software, USB security software and much more. Examples may include Folder Lock and Folder Protect. These types of data security software lets you protect your data with the password of your choice and will also let you to carry your data wherever you want.
