I think you’ll agree with me if I say that being a leader is one of the most difficult things to do. I mean, if you just watch from a distant, it may seem easy, but as soon as you are the one who has to portray the role, then you’ll see the difficulty.

Dealing with your own work is hard enough. What more if you have to manage another person’s work too? It’s really not that easy, especially if you are not equipped with enough tools to handle the job.

Building a house is hard. Building it will be even harder if you don’t have the tools to build it with. Building a car is difficult. Just imagine how even more difficult it’s going to get if you don’t have the tools to build the car.

Well, it’s quite the same with being a leader, but instead of tools, you need qualities. There is more to being a leader than simply being appointed the role. You have to possess certain qualities that will make you a leader.

What is a leader?

A leader is someone who has enough charisma to make people listen. Some people would pay other people so that they can get what they want, but a leader doesn’t have to. As a leader, you know how people tick. You know how to use psychology so that people will listen.
As good as being a leader sound, there are a few things that you have to possess first, and here they are:

Self-motivatio

There is more to being a leader than simply getting what you want. It is also about making sure that work is done properly.

It is not only about you. As the leader, you are expected to be the best in the team, but that is not where your priorities end. As the leader, you are also in charge of making sure that everybody else in the team also performs well.

With that, you need to learn how to motivate yourself. If you already do, then keep on getting better. Why? Well, it is not just you that needs to be motivated. You also have to keep your teammates motivated.
Dividing your own motivation can be exhausting. You might end up losing enough motivation for yourself. With that, you need to learn the art of self-motivation.
Focus

Being a leader means that you have to lead your teammates towards a specific goal. With that, you have to have enough focus to get to that goal. As the leader, you should be the one who will the design the plan and strategy to help the team reach the goal.

Transparency

Part of your job as a leader is to make your teammates feel like they are part of the team. It is the only way that they will be willing to grow. It is the only way that they will initiate action.

You have to make them feel that you are sharing a part of yourself to them. With that, you can’t just hide behind a mask. If that is the way you are going to do it then your team mates will probably do the same.

One summer while I was on vacation from college I became a tin man: selling aluminum siding and roofing door to door in the Boston area. The business has a bad reputation but our siding and our roofs were the finest available. Our prices were high but fair. In spite of what consumers always want to believe, you can’t get the best without paying for it.
