Due to the accessible nature of forex trading many people choose to trade outside of work. This means a lot of people will trade only in the mornings during lunch and after work, thereby limiting the time that they can devote to a rapidly moving market. Forex markets are very fluid and the situations of particular currencies can change quickly, which can be a problem for the part-time trader. This means that a part-time trader should make the most of their time in order to avoid missed opportunities.

If you are a part-time trader, you should be very aware of which currencies trade at what times and how this affects you. Your ability to trade currencies will be limited to the times that you are available as some currencies are more active at certain times than others. If you are a night worker you may be able to successfully trade in your home market but not Australian and Japanese markets. Night traders could produce a strategy of trading specific currency parts that are most active during the hours they are available to trade. To do this the night trader could look at correlations on forex charts between two currencies, perhaps being able to use time that is not spent trading in researching such correlations. Another important tip is to have ‘stop-loss’ orders that will ensure that you are protected from losses even if you are not able to be by your computer to monitor the situation.
