What to Do/Don't When He Says Sorry

Sorry can be one of the most important words to use in a relationship, often more important that those three words that fill relationships. Saying sorry, if you really mean it, takes a lot of courage and shouldn't be treated as a small thing because it isn't, it shows a lot of dedication to both you and the relationship. So if you ever find yourself in the situation where your partner has said sorry to you for something they have done or something that has happened, there are certain ways that you should or shouldn't react. Do's • When of the most important things to do when your partner says sorry, is to make sure than they know you appreciate it. Saying sorry is a big deal and it might well have taken a lot of guts or confidence for your partner to say sorry to you, and even if you aren't ready to forgive them for when they might have done, you should at least thank them for saying sorry and go a little bit easier on them because of it. • Sometimes when a problem occurs in a relationship it is your fault, sometimes his, and sometimes both of your faults. If he says sorry for something that is he fault then you should accept it, but if he says sorry for something that was yours and his fault then you should say sorry too. He has taken the effort to say sorry to you, so you should give him the same courtesy and apologise too. There is nothing worse than for someone to take a lot of time building themselves up, going to their partner and saying sorry, just to seeing you nod and walk off even though you were just as much in the wrong as him! Don'ts • Whatever you do, do not continue to treat him badly after he has done sorry. This will make him feel even worse than he already did, and it might also make him feel like he never wants to apologise for anything again which can end up ruining your whole relationship! Just because he says sorry doesn't mean you should forgive him instantly. However if he really meant it then you should at least show a little bit of appreciation, even if this is only by taking a bit easier on him. Take all the time you need to forgive him, especially if he has done something very wrong, but at least appreciate the effort he puts in to help the situation. • Finally, another thing that you should not do is say sorry before you mean. Don't say sorry to him just because he says sorry to you. If you say sorry before you mean it then you will still be holding the grudge inside you, and it will only build up until it breaks out and could result in another fight and break up the whole relationship potentially. Do not say sorry until you are ready, but make sure he knows what is going on at all times, openness is the key to a healthy relationship.
